How to travel... AS A VOLUNTEER!!
Hello everybody! I'm super happy to share with you my current lifestyle.
After 7 months of traveling; after living in many hostels, houses, and 9-century buildings; after meeting more than a hundred people; today, I can say that I'm a nomad. How long will it take? I HAVE NO IDEA! And right now, this thought that before was a reason for being anxious, today is a reason of HAPPINESS.
I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN, AND I LOVE THAT!!
How I'm doing for traveling for so much time? I'M VOLUNTEERING! YES! VOLUNTEERING.
I'm using the Worldpackers application, in fact, I'm a guru there, after 5 experiences and I have my own code! BELUYOGANOMADE :) Of course, you can use it if you want!
The thing is that this has been the best way to travel, at least for me. I've been moving through many cities and I'm not only just having a great time, but I'm also learning A LOT!
My goal was to teach Yoga or work in the tourist sector to learn about hospitality, and now, I can say that I can manage different systems and programs for hostels. All these things about reservation, check-in, check out, the link between the email the website, the specific program that the hostel uses, I know how to do that.
Of course, it changes between countries and cities, but working in 3 hostels, I know that I can guess, by exploration, what to do in a new one.
In another post, I'm gonna go deeper into what I have been learning because is a lot. Also now I know about human resources management, group management, and a little bit of economic administration in the tourism field.
But... how to do it??
How to travel as a volunteer??
You have MANY OPTIONS
I believed, in the first moment, that the only way was through some website, but the truth is that you have other possibilities.
Let's start with the websites
I'm subscribed to 2 websites which are the most popular:
- Worldpackers (Remember that you can use my code: BELUYOGANOMADE)
For some reason, I don't like Workaway, I don't like how the website works, and everytime that I tried to connect some hosts, they responded a long time after I contacted them, or never responded.
It also happens in Worldpackers but from my point of view, It's a platform much more easy to use.
In my experience, from the very beginning, I fell in love with Worldpackers, and I found it alone, just researching on the Internet.
A website from my experience, is the best choice because in my freely and nomadic life, I also like to have some order: to know where 'm gonna go, with whom, what people is saying about the host...
There are also more websites, I've been exploring some of them, but I didn't feel connected with the vibe of them. You just need to make a reseach(a tiny onoe) on the Internet and find the one that fits better with you.
But....
Another option is just try to contact with the host
Many people do it. They call to some hostel or some place that they want to volunteer with, and just ask for the possibility of being there for a while.
This way could be a little bit more risky, because is a commitment based in the parts confidence, but is also a more spontaneous way of traveling!
Both ways are really valuable and rewardings, since you can move from one city to another exchanging your skills for accomodation and food, so you hardly have to cover any expenses.
Just for having in mind...
All the countries offer different ways for being a volunteer, and when you travel, if you looke for it, on the browsher you will see more opportunities that are not in the websites that I mentioned.
For example, right now I'm in Israel, and if I look for the word volunteer, many options appear, as you can see.
The experiences that you'll live as a volunteer are amazing, and for example right now, while I was writing this post, we had a meeting where the host invited us for pizza and tequila shots! And... he gave us t-shirts as a gift!
I hope this post was useful for you!!
Thanks a lot for being here and for reading my article!
Have a great day!
With love,
Belu
I guess you go until you feel that's enough. I think it is great what you do and it works, you get to see new cultures, having new experiences, love it!
Thank you for your words!! Yes, at least for me is pretty cool to live in this way, at least for a while 😊
Hi @belug,
Great to see you using the #travelfeed tag! We launched the #travelfeed curated tag more than 3 years ago and have been supporting the best travel blogs on Hive ever since. But did you know that TravelFeed has evolved? Based on the feedback of thousands of Hive travel bloggers we created TravelFeed.io.
TravelFeed.io brings together all the benefits of Hive decentralized blogging with features that you as a travel blogger will love: Photo galleries, Instagram embeds, custom maps, post scheduling and more. And if you want, you can even use our easy site builder to set up your own travel blog on your own domain which can be a great way to generate a passive income from your blog!
Unfortunately, focussing on developing the best platform for travelers means that we no longer curate the #travelfeed tag. But, you can log in with your Hive account on TravelFeed.io to publish your next travel post, and it will be posted to Hive automatically! Every day, we select the best posts and reward them with an upvote and added visibility.
We would love to see you on TravelFeed.io soon :)
Hi!! Thanks a lot for letting me know! For sure I’ll consider to join travelfeed.io to make some of my posts 😊
Interesting. I have never heard of this as a way of traveling but it makes sense. It wouldn't work for me but it's good to learn different methods for doing things. Good luck!
