A few days ago while we were chatting with some visiting cousins, we heard a noise among the dry branches of a neighbor's lemon tree and we turned to see what it was about and we could see a medium sized iguana quite agitated; she was running away from a couple of pussies that were possibly wanting to eat her; to her luck we were able to scare those cats away and our visitor could rest a while sunbathing lying on the wall, you can imagine how exhausted she was that I could approach and she did not show any reaction.
We imagine that she comes from the mountains looking for a cool place where she can get water, since it has not rained for several weeks here and it is noticeable that the drought is starting to hit the highest parts of the mountain. As she was still for a while I thought she was hurt but then I could see that she was fine, they usually like cool places and I think they pass by here because somehow they know that in the house across the street there are several trees including avocado which are very fresh.
I know that iguanas are very agile but those dry branches are full of barbs and it is hard to imagine that she would not end up scratching her eyes out, so I preferred to move away a little so that she could move around calmly and it kind of worked because she stayed calmly sunbathing.
One thing that makes me curious about iguanas is that being reptiles that like to climb trees and can spend long hours at the top, their tail does not serve them to grab or hold on as other animals do and I tell you this because I once witnessed how an iguana fell from the top of a tree and I wondered; because they do not hold on with the tail. But they don't have that ability even so it survived the fall; all this happened in a square that has some very tall saman trees from where these iguanas fall directly to the concrete walkway and do not suffer any damage; they only run out of air and take a few minutes to recover and then they start their way up again.

Hola Hivers; espero todos estén muy bien. Hace unos días mientras conversábamos con unos primos que nos visitaron, escuchamos un ruido ente las ramas secas de un limonero de la vecina y volteamos a ver de qué se trataba y pudimos ver una iguana de tamaño medio bastante agitada; estaba huyendo de un par de mininos que posiblemente estaban deseando almorzársela; para su suerte pudimos espantar esos gatos y nuestra visitante pudo descansar un rato tomando el sol recostada en el muro, pueden imaginarse lo agotada que estaba que pude acercarme y ella no mostró ninguna reacción.
Imaginamos viene de la montaña buscando algún lugar fresco donde pueda conseguir agua ya que hace varias semanas por aquí no llueve y se nota que esta comenzando a pegar la sequía en las partes más altas. Como estuvo quieta un buen rato llegue a pensar que estaba herida pero luego pude constatar que se encontraba bien, ellas comúnmente les gustan los lugares frescos y creo que pasan por aquí porque de alguna manera saben que en la casa que queda cruzando la calle hay varios árboles entre ellos aguacate los cuales son muy frescos.
En lo que recupero el aliento subió rápidamente por las ramas secas del limonero coca que me dejo bastante sorprendida; yo sé que las iguanas son muy ágiles pero esas ramas secas están llenas de púas y me cuesta imaginas que no termine puyándose los ojos por lo que preferí alejarme un poco para que se desplazara con tranquilidad y como que dio resultado porque se quedó tranquila tomando el sol.
Una cosa que me da curiosidad de las iguanas es que siendo reptiles que les gusta trepar árboles y pueden pasar largar horas en lo más alto, su cola no les sirva para agarrase o sujetarse como lo hacen otros animales y les comento esto porque en una ocasión presencie como una iguana cayó desde lo más alto de un árbol y yo me pregunte; porque no se sujetan con la cola. Pero no tienen esa capacidad aun así sobrevivió a la caída; todo esto paso en una plaza que tiene unos samanes muy altos desde donde estas iguanas caen directo a la caminería de concreto y no sufren daño alguno; solo se quedan sin aire y tardan unos minutos en recuperarse y luego emprenden su camino nuevamente hacia arriba.

Después de un largo rato nuestra amiga ya estaba calmada de buen ánimo por lo que se estuvo paseando entre las ramas y el muro para luego continuar con su camino y así me despido hasta una nueva oportunidad deseándoles que terminen de pasar un domingo genial.
