Allow me to introduce you to a mesmerizing location in the Kansai region where you can witness the breathtaking beauty of wisteria blossoms. Byodoin Temple, located in Uji, is renowned for its stunning display of wisteria, which reaches full bloom from late April to early May, creating a captivating purple realm.
Upon purchasing a ticket for around 600 JPY (admission only), you will receive a brochure that provides information about the temple. The wisteria can be found in two distinct zones – at the entrance gate and within the temple grounds.
I had the pleasure of accompanying my Thai friends to the temple, where we were treated to the awe-inspiring sight of wisteria draping the main hall of Byodoin Temple.
Numerous tourists and photographers, myself included, eagerly wait to capture the perfect image of this enchanting scene.
After soaking in the beauty of the wisteria, I highly recommend exploring the streets surrounding the temple. As Uji City is known for its green tea, you'll find a variety of green tea-based products, including sweets, food, and beverages. Several restaurants and sweet shops line the streets, and I encourage you to sample the delicious combination of Uji green tea and Japanese sweets at any of these establishments. The green tea from Uji is of exceptional quality, in my opinion.
How to get there?
Reaching this exquisite destination is relatively easy, as it takes about an hour by car or approximately 80-90 minutes via train.
If you're hoping to experience the wisteria blooms this year, unfortunately, it's too late. However, be sure to add this magical location to your must-visit list for next year.
