This one is not from a jungle safari or any wildlife sanctuary, but the jumbo are back in our jungle. Last years, there were 27 elephants that strolled in our nearby jungle. But this time it seems one of them strayed into the jungle and becomes a point of attraction for villagers.
Previously, we never had any such intrusion, but for the last two years, it getting regular. My village is surrounded by a vast jungle area. And the jungle is attached to many neighbouring states. Infact there was a huge space for these animal to venture. But now seems the human interference made them to keep straying now and then. Elephants may develop migratory patterns, moving to areas where they can find food and have good forest cover. This put our village into their radar.
The other reason could be their shrinking habitat. Elephants may enter villages due to shrinking habitats caused by mining, infrastructure development, and power projects. Lately a lot of roadways work done nearby, they made a elephant corridors for these wild animals. But these poor animal unable to understand the humans terminology. And they ventures out wildly to many unknown territory.
Wild animals may enter villages to search for food and shelter. It's the natural behavioural instincts of elephants to stride long distances in search of food. So far this jumbo did not harmed anyone or entered the people area, but somehow they find a good shelter near a bamboo trees. The jumbo is was quite big in size and becomes a point of attraction for villagers.
This could be a risky matter as understanding the behavior of the wild jumbos is not easy. They may get aggressive looking at the crowd. But finding this animal alone, people keep visiting them always. Last time when the herd came near to our forest we freighten them with crackers. But now seems there could be a major attack from these big animals.
As human populations grow, they expand into more remote areas, which can lead to habitat loss. And now we are dealing with these wild to keep us protected. Hopefully, this one too pass away from our area sooner without damaging anything. Will see, dealing with the wild is always risky.
Peace!!
