Hive Stock Images: The African giant land snail

in Stock Images5 years ago (edited)

The rainy season came a little too late this year and as such, we are just witnessing the first peak of the rain in the month of September; something we should have witnessed in June. The climate change is really biting hard this time.

So the land snail usually hibernate during the dry season and become active in rainy seasons. It is quite normal to see them crawling around vegetation during the peak rainy period. I was lucky to stumble on one today and I took pictures using my Samsung Tab A 2016.

The rainy season came about 6 weeks late in japan and very short this year....At least you have giant snails though! 😯

It's about two months late this year in this part of the world. I'm sure Japan has her peculiar biodiversity that might not be giant land snail.

Sure! Lots of crows! They are fascinating. I feel like that have a society with social rules and we don’t even realize it. The man-o-war jellyfish is stopping me from swimming this week, surprised japan has the same jellyfish as my home town in east coast USA. I miss squirrels and chipmunks though. The city center has very little wildlife. I did see a civet in the middle of Tokyo though and no one here believes me

The rule is such that, the more developed a city is, the less the biodiversity in the city. You don't expect the city center to have a lot of wildlife. They must have been displaced deeper into the wild through developmental works. Crows are virtually everywhere. Those mfs will survive anything. Wish I could see a pic of the manowar jellyfish though.

I also took some pictures of different species of snail around April this year. There is some that are bigger than this.
When properly cooked and fried, people consume it and it tastes good.

Sure.. This quite small compared to the usual size that the animal can attain. Its rich in iodine nutritionally
