Need assistance as I must be missing/forgetting a step in the process: I have 1.00 Hive in my Hive wallet and want to trade it for Index on Hive Engine market screen but that screen is not showing the one hive it is showing zero swap.hive. How do I get the hive into the hive exchange wallet so I can make the purchase.

I had the same question last month. I see Jon answered it below. Also if you are trying to cash out a coin you just need to withdraw it. I had to ask that question also last month :-D
The funny part is I went back and watched a few of the hive training videos but did not see that piece of the transaction. Now I know. Today INDEX was down to 0.39 last week I purchased it at 0.50 I changed my mind and staked the 1 hive that I had, it will currently earn me more hive that way. I will get more INDEX with the small earnings from tokens that I am not focusing on at this time.

You need to bring it over through either Hive Engine (deposit) or Leo Dex (deposit)
Hive on the blockchain need to become swap.hive so you can use it on hive engine.
