One way to start earning HBD is to switch your Default Post Reward setting (in your Peakd.com settings) to "50% HBD and 50% HP". You'll earn less HP than before, but you will start accumulating HBD!
Of course, it depends on what your priorities are. In the early days of my account, I focused on accumulating and powering up HIVE much more than on accumulating HBD.
