How To Make Yourself Uncomfortable!

"When people get comfortable...Nothing changes!"

Cool quote huh? That's actually something my Dad said to me years ago. He worked in the car industry for decades and one day, he no longer had a job. He wasn't defeated by any means, he actually made the decision to go in business for himself after that. In his words...He got comfortable with being uncomfortable!

So as entrepreneurs, something we should challenge ourselves to do, is to embrace being...Uncomfortable.

Amazing things happen when we embrace change and don't shy away from new things that might pop up...And there is something I have been doing for years that helps me when we're looking for change.

Story time....

We are always working on things. I highlighted a few of the projects we've been working on the other day. But every now and again we have a project that needs to 'launch' or go live for those of us not in the affiliate marketing space. The blessing and curse with being an entrepreneur is there is no 'boss' looking over your shoulder...

Which means, you have to kick your own butt to make things happen!

And to do that, I love to set myself a 'launch date'!

I cannot being to explain how much this has helped me in the years I've been in business for myself. I have fallen victim to the 'busy syndrome' over the years, which means I'm always busy, but rarely accomplishing what I would like. So to get myself out of that nasty habit, I set a date for a project and it makes me SUPER uncomfortable because...I know I have to get things done at that time!

Seems straight forward right?

Mark down a date on your calendar.

Bust your butt and get everything done by that date.

Like I mentioned, what I have noticed is a major change in my approach when I have a concrete date set in stone. It literally helps me get off my butt, and get to work as if I had a mean ol' boss over my shoulder screaming at me to finish my work.

O.K. I've never had that but apparently it's not a nice experience :)

So I guess I should let the cat out of the bag right?

Our 'date' that we set in stone for 'Secret Project 3937393' is November 28th. Which gives our team over a month to finish up which we think will be one of the coolest projects we've ever been a part of!

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable!

You know change is coming, so embrace it and do the things you need, to push yourself and your business forward.

It's time for me to get to work ;)

Deadlines are good, however I find they have little effect on me until the date gets really close. This normally means that I'm doing things at the last minute.

Exactly lol That's when I really start to get moving lol

As an academic I agree with you 😅. Yes I have a boss, but it's just someone running the department not me 🤣. All my research and writing and publishing is my responsibility. No one is checking in on my progress or reminding me of what needs to be doen. After all I'm to one gaining from published work, so why should my boss remind me to publish 🤔.

I will give myself a 'launch date' or rather 'you need to start writing that paper other wise you're no use to the academic world'.... And I'll give a time frame according to the type of research I'm doing. Does it need a month, a week, 4 months?

Or I take the easy route and just write something on call. That way you're given a due date and you have no choice but to adhere to it. Even then I'll take my sweet sweet time.

Being open to change is not easy. I was kind of shaken when noise.cash was not earning me. I then slowly spread my efforts over youtube and hive. And it feels good to go from there. Because when we accept the change and decide to take action, we learn to live in the uncertain and uncomfortable.

I am looking forward to knowing more about your secret project on Nov 28th.

As for a set date, I find myself procrastinating quite often and I end up just doing everything near the deadlines.

Then break up the project in smaller chunks if you can and set deadlines for those

Thats so true, my father was self employed his entire life and was always in the uncomfortable position of needed to do things for himself.

The 28thNov sounds great, I cant wait for the new project!

Getting out of your comfort zone is always interesting and setting yourself an essential goal.
I am looking forward to seeing what you are preparing for us on November 28th.

That's one of the perceived drawbacks in the beginning of my entrepreneurship journey. Nobody is over your shoulder to tell you that you have to do this now or this should be ready by this day. So you tend to work only when you feel like it.

Developing self accountability is very important, because you have to work with deadlines and you need the discipline to get it done at the said deadline.

It's definitely not always easy as self employed to make things go "forward". I have been an offline and online entrepreneur for more than 10 years and every day I need to give myself a kick to do the things that take me out of the comfort zone. It seems it's getting more and more difficult to older I get :-)

Looking forward to seeing what it is. That is a pretty good idea to set a lunch date. I totally understand what you mean by getting comfortable and nothing ever changing. I am kind of there right now in my career, but I have so little time left before I can retire, there isn't much point of jumping out now. I will have plenty of time to try new things in a couple of years.

I wish you the best of luck 🙌 Yes, a deadline does tend to get things done 😂

Creativity is dormant within complacency...

Being uncomfortable triggers "survival measures", which ultimately unlocks creativity and production. Isn't it funny how so many great advancements and developments were birthed from a position of urgency and necessity.

Wow! I'll be looking forward to it! I'm really intrigued!

"When people get comfortable...Nothing changes!"

How I adore such statements by intelligent people who have seen life! Did your father really say that?

I have fallen victim to the 'busy syndrome' over the years, which means I'm always busy, but rarely accomplishing what I would like.

Oof, this hits hard, you are so preaching to the busy but not accomplishing choir with this sentiment and entire post.

I too have to set hard, uncomfortable deadlines if I want to get something completed, especially a project that furthers me, I am very prone to self-sabotaging my business progress and personal development by using tending to others as, gasp, an excuse. Sigh.

But, I hear you and the Universe, it's time to set a date and get cracking instead of avoiding. I hope you crush whatever it is you are working on fellow homesteading, hardworking sir, I shall endeavor (uncomfortably!)to do the same lol!

!PIZZA

Ironic, in a sense, that many of us are freely making ourselves "uncomfortable" in service of ultimately reaching a place of comfort in the future.

At least, that holds true for our household... all the toil and risk taking of the moment is done because we are looking for a more secure and peaceful future.

But yeah, I can definitely relate to the idea of having to kick my own butt to get things moving! And setting goals, benchmarking and making deadlines? Absolutely essential!

=^..^=

Nov 28th Let's goooo any clues on what I should stock up on to be as ready as possible for it? !CTP
I fully agree with this and it's something that has stuck with me as well. Get used to putting yourself out of your comfort zone. That's when real growth happens and it doesn't just go for business it goes for everything you do in life and is one of the biggest keys ever to self improvement.

I think I'm currently have that "busy syndrome". There are a lot of days where I am to busy to notice the hours passed and then just realized that I have accomplished nothing at the end of the day.

I will need to mark up my calendar too to keep me pushin' for a daily output. Thanks for the reminder and the tip. 😊

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable! Make this step changed my life when I've switched between jobs and found a new world. Confort makes people lazy, we shouldn't get to accustomed with that.

I don't generally believe in coincidences.

With that out of the way, I was actually in a Dilemma of a decision, a decision which I know is going to be good for me in the long run but at the same time it would take me a bit out of my comfort zone.

And funny thing is I had to make that decision within exactly 4 hours from now.

Well, coincidence or not - I am going to get ready now and set off to pull the trigger!

Let's embrace getting uncomfortable eh!

lol hey if anything, it adds some spice to your life!!

!CTP

Aye, that it does! :D

I have fallen victim to the 'busy syndrome' over the years, which means I'm always busy, but rarely accomplishing what I would like.

Honestly, I am experiencing this stage. It's like I am never free and I am always busy. While it does helps in lots of stages but seeing the outcome I am not that happy tbh. Because with the amount of efforts I should have gotten a much more better results for the efforts that I am giving. Which is why I suppose I need to keep myself in check.

While coming to think of the ways that you have analyzed and implemented in your life I would definitely try it out. Now that I think of it, when I was at a job these date really made me work hard and do my best to complete it before I have listen to my boss lol. Now I am laughing about it but back than it was a nightmare! Implementing that could come in handy that I must say!

While I really liked the idea of being uncomfortable as of now! Looking forward to being comfortable with the uncomfortable!

Goals without deadlines are just dreams. So, I guess that's what the launch date is.

The more we can stay in the sweet spot just outside our comfort zone, the faster we will grow. I very much look forward to your great unveiling! 🙏 💚

Yes 😂. I want to be able to jump back the moment I've achieved the growth. Give myself time to recollect, and then I'll go back out into the uncomfort again.

Hehe...yep, back and forth between comfort and discomfort is good too, as long as the periodicity not too long. We also don't want to go so far beyond our comfort zones that we scare the bejeezuz out of ourselves, so we want to run to go hide under a rock...😂. Consistently just outside is the the magic zone. 😉😁

The story about getting out of that comfort zone is especially true. A few times in my career I became so comfortable in my job, that "life" threw some obstacles on the way, which forced me to change it up and that resulted in my development each time.

Setting the timeline to accomplished something is a priority for any project one intend to complete and on time. It gives direction and part to the destination.

Thanks for this amazing post
