Today I want to talk about something that is of great importance to every single individual here on the Hive Blockchain, and that is the recovery account. Every individual with a Hive account has one, whether they know it or not. The issue, however, is whether or not that account can be practically used to recover your account in case it is stolen.
The account that was used to create your account is by default set as the recovery account. You can see what your present recovery account is on HiveBlocks. Scroll down the page a little bit and you'll find it.

The recovery account is the account that must initiate the recovery of a stolen account, hence it is extremely important that the account either be owned by someone that you trust, or that it is your own second account. To successful recover an account, the original master or owner key must be known. If it's not, that's it, the account is lost.
Given that the recovery account is so essential, it behooves every single one of us here to make absolutely certain that it is set to an account that we trust or can use to initiate the recovery of our account in case it is stolen. Thankfully the process to set a new trusted or owned recovery account is very easy.
There are actually three methods of which I'm presently aware. The simplest and quickest is to do so via HiveSigner. Below is the address that you would enter into the web browser that has your HiveSigner credentials, of course changing the name to the name of the account that you want to use.

The second method to change your recovery account is to do so using PeakD.
Click on the 3-dot menu, and a pull-down menu will appear with various options. Under ADV. ACCOUNT TOOLS, you'll see Keys & Permissions.
When you click on that, you'll be take to page with various options again, one of which is RECOVERY ACCOUNT at the bottom.
Clicking on that will take you to another page that gives a good bit of useful information on what a recovery is, and how to use it.
Scrolling down a little more and you'll see a few different options which allow you to change your recovery account, doing so via PeakD, HiveSinger (which I already mentioned), and the third method, which can be seen next to the green AUTO (I'll describe that next).
If you don't have a suitable recovery account to use, then you can use the service that @arcange has created for just that purpose. I link the relevant post and website below.

If you have not done so yet, I would strongly suggest changing your recovery account to a trusted or owned account right now. Don't wait. It takes 30 days to go through, so get the ball rolling now.
