Today I woke up and took a look at @kus-knee contest idea. I instantly felt inspired. As I am a big fan of black and white photography, I immediately started to picture possible images in my head. I thought of two ideas:growing old and crying. I wanted to make photos that would capture these ideas and express them through an.... onion.
The first image, "The shadow of existence" like I titled it, is connected to the idea of aging. A decay in our physical appearance. A shadow of what we once were. The piece of wood on which the two onions are staying is taken from one of my walks in nature a couple of days ago. It was just laying there and I felt the urge to take it, thinking I could paint something on it. Little did I know that it's going to be a prop for my future photographic endeavours. I have plans for that piece of wood so keep an eye on me haha👁️
The second image "The radiography of an onion" is a bit more abstract. I thought that when we express feelings of sadness through crying, we are very much exposed, just like in a X-ray machine.
Our tears are visible and our soul can no longer hide the sadness. When we show emotions, it is like little cracks happen to the onion and we let others to peal our layers until they get to our core. It is not easy and most of us rarely let others take a radiography of our heart when suffering. Well well if this onion didn't awake some philosophical questions in me. Who would have thought? I really love it when I feel a rush of inspiration grabbing me by the arms and pulling me into a creative rollercoaster.
