A Walk around the Longshaw Estate, Derbyshire

in Photography3 years ago

It was a sunny day, so we made a return visit to the Longshaw Estate that is owned by the National Trust. It is beautiful here at the moment with its autumnal colours.

There's a group of Mandarin ducks on the lake. We only usually see one or two on the water, so it was a nice surprise to see several of them.

They're quite shy birds but these didn’t seem to mind us being around. We then followed the footpath round the pond through Granby Wood.

We walked to the barn and came to a road, so we decided to retrace our steps back through the wood.

The Longshaw Estate is a very busy location at weekends and school holidays.

Children seem to love it here as there's plenty of things to do, especially hiding amongst the trees. Today it was pretty quiet.

Obviously, at the end of the walk we had to treat ourselves to a coffee and pie!

That was a very nice walk. I like the look of those Mandarin ducks, I have a thing about birds with funky hair do's 😄

That pie at the end has made me hungry, I'm off to get some food.

Have a super day Julie.

Thank you @andrastia. I'm a bit like that. If I see food, I have to go and get some!

Seems a great place for a walk. And ended with a cherry on top! 😄

Yes, I love walks that end like this. 😀

Your pictures always make me stop and look. I especially like the Mandarins. Pictures like these takes patience and talent. I appreciate what you do. Thank you for brightening the moment.

Thank you @diziette for your kind words. I appreciate them very much.

I like those Mandarin ducks. I sometimes see them here too. You must have quite a zoom lens don't you?

I borrow a lens. I wish I could afford my own but not yet. The ducks do come close to the side though. I think they've got used to people.
