It dominates the town from atop a hill, and its appearance, although modified in the centuries when fashion began to prevail over the sacred, forgetting its stellar function, resembles what it could well have been by default: a church-fortress, whose tower, sentry boxes, walls, and buttresses protected against external attacks, whatever their nature.
But there are still sufficient remnants of the primitive wisdom of those architectural mystics, who, with the help of crude and simple tools, were astonishingly capable of approaching perfection.
I often wonder if their faces are the same ones that look back at us ironically across the unreachable thresholds of time and stone, serving as a mirror and asking us what use so much technology is to us, if in reality, we lack a heart.
Domina el pueblo desde lo alto de una colina y su aspecto, aun modificado en unos siglos en los que la moda comenzó a imperar sobre lo sagrado olvidando su funcionalidad estelar, semeja lo que bien pudo ser por defecto: una iglesia-fortaleza, cuya torre, garitas, muros y contrafuertes protegían frente a los acosos exteriores, fueran estos de la índole que fueran.
Pero todavía quedan suficientes restos de la primitiva sabiduría de aquellos místicos de la arquitectura, que, con la ayuda de unas herramientas toscas y simples, eran capaces, asombrosamente, de rozar la perfección.
A menudo me pregunto si son sus rostros esos mismos que nos contemplan con ironía a través de los umbrales inalcanzables del tiempo y de la piedra, sirviéndonos de espejo y preguntándonos para qué nos sirve tanta Tecnología, si en realidad, carecemos de Corazón.
