Monitor Lizard at the Calgary Zoo

I enjoy the way the colors stood out on this monitor lizard, as the lighting was a bit challenging. With a little patience, I waited for the lizard to move where it would be a little more well lit. The different species of this lizard are actually known to all look alike, although they can vary quite a bit in size from tiny to gigantic. They are closely related to both snakes and Komodo dragons; some are known to eat deer or even fruit. They are also considered to be quite intelligent, with a fast metabolism that enables quicker thinking. They have shown that they can count objects up to at least six.
