Yesterday I went to the acoustic shell, a place that since I know it I found interesting. It's funny, because since I was very, very little, every time I passed by there my mother used to give me the sermon: don't go in there, bad things happen there. It happens that, when I was older, I was still curious to go in, but I didn't want to go alone, because my mother's words kept going through my head.
Ayer fui a la concha acústica, un sitio que desde que lo conozco se me hacia interesante. Es curioso, ya que desde muy, muy pequeño, cada vez que pasaba por ahí mi madre me soltaba la retahíla del sermón: no entres ahí, ahí pasan cosas malas. Pasa que, ya más grande, tenía aún esa curiosidad por entrar, pero no quería ir solo, pues las palabras de mi mamá seguían rondando por mi cabeza.
Several years later, I understand that Venezuela has changed a little, the possibilities of robbery have decreased and as an adult, I am more sensible when walking down the street, however, I started to think that someone alone, walking around, without knowing the roads, is an easy "prey". So, instead of going there alone, I asked my friends, those who live nearby, if anyone wanted to go, to which they all answered the same thing: no. It was not a "no" out of annoyance. It was not out of annoyance or in a rude way, it was rather the consequence of having lived there all their lives, what seemed interesting to me seemed monotonous and trite to them, so I never had the opportunity to go.
Ayer, sin embargo, al estar cerca con una amiga que no tenía nada que hacer, pude ir por fin a ver ese lindo lugar. Había escuchado que habían cuidado las nuevas aéreas y la verdad estuve muy feliz y ensimismado a la hora de caminar por ahí. La gente sabe que me gusta el senderismo, y por lo mismo, aunque sea solo una pequeña caminata de cinco minutos, estar ahí rodeado de árboles, tranquilo y con la brisa que podía sentir corriendo por mi cuerpo, fue una linda experiencia que quise resaltar y por eso ahora escribo.
Varios años después, comprendo que Venezuela ha cambiado un poco, las posibilidades de robo han bajado y como alguien adulto, soy más sensato a la hora de caminar por la calle, sin embargo, me pongo a pensar que alguien solo, caminando por ahí, sin conocer los caminos, pues la verdad si se ve como una "presa" fácil. Entonces, en vez de ir hacia allá solo, pregunté a mis amigos, los que viven cerca de ahí, si alguno quería ir, a lo que todos respondían lo mismo: no. No era un no por fastidio o de una forma descortés, era más bien la consecuencia de haber vivido ahí toda su vida, lo que a mí me parecía interesante a ellos le parecía monótono y trillado, entonces nunca tuve la oportunidad de ir.
Ayer, sin embargo, al estar cerca con una amiga que no tenía nada que hacer, pude ir por fin a ver ese lindo lugar. Había escuchado que habían cuidado las nuevas aéreas y la verdad estuve muy feliz y ensimismado a la hora de caminar por ahí. I saw some people exercising, fish swimming, children playing and dogs running. I saw clouds standing so still that they looked like a painting, and I even saw a rainbow surrounding the sun in a magnificent way. I really enjoyed going, and although I understand that it is not a place I would go just to be, it is a place I would like to visit more often, to eat and
chat with people I want to see, without the need to spend a lot of money. It was something nice, something relaxing and something, above all, quiet.
Vi a algunas personas haciendo ejercicio, a peces nadando, niños jugando y perros corriendo. Vi como las nubes se quedaban tan inmóviles que parecían una pintura, e incluso vi un arcoíris que rodeaba el sol de una forma magnífica. Me gustó mucho ir, y aunque entiendo que no es un lugar al que iría solo para estar, si es un sitio al cual me gustaría visitar más a menudo, para comer y charlas con personas que quiera ver, sin la necesidad de gastar mucho dinero de por medio. Fue algo lindo, algo relajante y algo, por sobre todo, tranquilo.
