Festividad religiosa en Yucatán / Religious Festivity in Yucatán, México

The small town of Izamal on the Yucatan Peninsula gathers thousands of parishioners in early December to celebrate the feast of the Virgin of the Yucatan, or Our Lady of the Conception.

Izamal is known as the City of Three Cultures, as it has a great heritage of pre-Hispanic Mayan culture, from the colonial era and contemporary Mexico. It also has the nickname of "La Amarilla", The Yellow City, as all its houses are painted in that colour. This is also the colour of the Convent of San Antonio, the nerve centre of the festivity of the Virgin, which, as we have mentioned, gathers thousands of devotees to worship the Virgin.

These photos were taken back in 1998, with Fujifilm Provia 100 slide film, a Canon EOS3 camera and a lens Canon 16-35 f:2.8 lens.
