A Drink Idea with Cocoa Powder and Spices
Rich in Spices

Have you ever felt that the nights are too long, cold that spoils the mood, and you don't want a type of coffee drink? I am often in a bad mood on cold nights when I have to finish my deadlines, but my body sipped too much coffee that day.

The choice of spice drinks for the evening is something to do with ginger.

Join me to create a warm drink for the night or rainy day.

Explore The Ingredients in My Garden

I explored my backyard garden and I thought of herbs that I could harvest a little for me to make a warm drink.

Red ginger

I examined the red ginger plant. Not really grown up yet. But I can take a little of the tuber to make a drink. I ran out of stock of ginger in the kitchen. So this can help me.

These are fresh red ginger from my garden. In the markets of various regions in Indonesia, the price of red ginger is more expensive than the price of ginger that we usually use. Red ginger has a spicier taste and is commonly used as an ingredient in cough and cold medicines.

Because the taste is stronger, so a little ginger is used quite a few times for food or beverage.

Lemongrass

Moving on to the next crop, there are lemongrass plants with their sharp leaves. At least we have to be careful so that our skin does not bleed because the thin but sharp leaves are cut.

Lemongrass has a distinctive, authentic, and characteristic taste. Usually used in traditional dishes to add a fresh and fragrant taste character.

In this recipe, I don't use this lemongrass. I just share at once about these plants that I am plating in my garden.

Pandan Leaves

Indonesian people use pandan leaves as fragrance and coloring in food and beverages.

Pandan is like vanilla which can blend in with many things. And also like green matcha powder.

So in this drink recipe, I made using pandan leaves to add a delicious smell.

Spiced-Hot Chocolate Drink Recipe

The idea for this drink started when I saw a lot of cocoa powder in the kitchen. I remember before I went crazy on coffee, I used to make this chocolate drink a lot.

So this time I'm exploring a new recipe with chocolate drinks. I season my chocolate drink with ginger and also pandan leaves.

The Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon of grated red ginger
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
  • A pandan Leaf
  • 5 tablespoons of sugar (better to use palm sugar or brown sugar)
  • 800 ml of water.

How to make

Trust me, we just need a job stirring and paying attention to it until it brings it to a boil.

Remove and serve while warm!

About taste

A8293A0F-D9DD-4D80-BCD4-A8A6DD51E0E2.jpeg
The taste is good, but not as delicious as a puree ginger drink. If ginger drink offers something fresher, then this drink with cocoa powder offers something a heavier, creamier taste.

For great flavor, try to use high-quality cocoa powder. Low-quality cocoa powder will only give this drink an unpleasant aroma and taste.

So, this drink is worth a try for your drink list at night or on a rainy day to warm you up.

What do you think of my drink idea this time?

Sounds and looks delicious. Pandan leaves are so nice in teas and desserts, and my wife likes to use them in some curries too.

I will make pandan leaves and lemongrass beverages later.

Yeah pandan leaves have many natural benefits

Interesting drink! Something I definitely haven't tried. I don't think I've seen red ginger even.

Though, I can surely relate to the nights that seem too long. :D

Just go with general ginger then. ehehe

yeah, I always have a long night :)

I am going to try that drink tomorrow. I like my chocolate with cinnamon powder too but I've never tried giving red ginger/ginger to it. This recipe also reminds me of Aztec hot cocoa. And it's really good with brandy. But for aztec cocoa, they use pepper to spice it up. So, I wonder if ginger will also give it a slight spicy aftertaste. I'll let you know when I make it.

Waiting for your opinion about the taste in your version then :)

In this recipe, the ginger not strong as the taste in the "bandrek" drink. Then, because using cocoa powder, the taste not really good than using dark chocolate

Thank you so much @anggreklestari , I just loved your post, also growing ginger, but not the red one, ginger drinks are my favourite, always interested in natural ingredience, just want you to know that your posts I have read so far, are a mazing and so interesting, just love them and will continue to follow you.Thank you for sharing.

Hey, @artywink thank you so much for stopping by. I'm glad to know you from Foodies Community. I hope you continue your great food post, and I will support the best one :)

No need for the red one to make a warm drink, right? Yeah, sometimes I made a ginger drink with coconut meat too, super delicious :) We can create many variations

Thank you @anggreklestari most definitely will continue to post on foodies, love the community, and thank you for the advise on the red ginger. It is only a pleasure stopping by your foodies community.

Interesting beverage. I love ginger and lemongrass.

You to try it :)

It’s actually my first time hearing about Pandan leaves. 😀I always learn something new from your posts. I’m not really a fan of cocoa but I’ll be looking out for your lemongrass beverages. I had lots of lemongrass in my front yard when I was a kid.

Nice write up, weldone, you are a big-daddy saver

Thanks for stopping by.

Aside the fact that you have done it very well I think this is a wonderful post

Wow.

Oh, I will try to find that book. Thanks for reading and nice to know you on Hive.

Con mucho gusto te lo hago llegar al correo. Mi correo es [email protected]

Nice idea this drink so healthy yeah

Thank you, my friend!
