Herb harvesting

in Natural Medicine4 years ago

The last couple of days were dedicated to herb harvesting and of course a bit of taking pictures, on the side!

Some of the herbs like lavender and marjoram are cultivated, while some others like sage and cistus (rockrose), are growing on their own at the rewilded edges of the farm land.

Sage is a well known and beloved herb and I think this medieval saying, says it all:

Cur moriatur homo cui Salvia crescit in horto?

It can be translated as:

Why should a man die whilst sage grows in his garden?

Cistus on the other hand is rather unpopular and underestimated. It took me a while to figure out the remarkable benefits of this sticky herb that was all over the place!

Lavender is Fotini's favorite, as you can tell from the pictures :)

She absolutely adores the scent of it and she likes to make relaxation pillows stuffed with lavender!

And last but not least marjoram, one more of the essential herbs that can always be found in our home!

The bonus shots of the day are taken by Fotini and they show my "bloody" hands as I am having my snack on a red mulberry tree :)

Unless stated otherwise all the pictures and the words are mine.

Agreed, these are wonderful photos of you both harvesting the herbs!

Thanks a lot :)

Sage is one of my favorite herbs to cook with. I wish I had access to fresh sage like you have in abundance.

Yes, having herbs around you is a blessing!

There is a lot of healing to be had just from harvesting our own herbs, that connection we make with the plant, the exchange of energy. What a wonderful way to spend the day. Thanks for sharing xx
