if I had a garden and place, I would plant them in the soil
but probably also build a low (for ground temp) greenhouse around it
now they are in pots and not being tortured in the cold in winter
they don't need much in winter, we ofc have nearly no light but the are just happy not freezing, altough I think I was told they do not really freeze (the aloe jelly)

unfortunately they freeze! I have learned this from my own experienceI
