By definition, never-was is a person who has never achieved anything great, useful, or distinguished in life. Meanwhile a has-been is the opposite of that. These two are used in a negative connotation.

This word comes to mind today when I was researching about my paper on a has-been authors. A has-been is someone who once used to be great but is not anymore. This word is also used to describe someone in connotative way.

These two words suddenly comes to mind when I see my surrounding. The never was people who are proud of themselves. I can't never understand a person living without any ambition. How can they live just floating aimlessly without anything in mind? isn't there anything they'd like to improve in their life? do they just succumb into darkness voluntarily?

Personally, it sucks living without ambition but sometimes there's a point in life where you just feel like exist without a reason. Do you need a reason to live anyway? do you need a reason to just exist? I don't know the answer to this yet.

About two weeks ago, I watched a Taiwanese TV shows titled Yong Jiu Grocery Store. The story starts with a young successful real estate manager called Jun Long (Derek Chan)who returns to his hometown to manage his grandfather's grocery store. We will be taken to explore the history of each characters and the grocery store itself. This slice of life drama will make us ponder about "what is actually matter in life?"," what is the significance of family, history, culture, and tradition?", "Are we happier without including them or remember about it in our life?", "is the ultimate goal in life is to make a lot of money?". This drama answers some of these questions. I simply recommend to watch it if you want to feel a little bit of nostalgia.

That drama reminds me about most family stores around me. The stores here are mostly owned from three generations. Though these days, some of them have left and decided to emigrate somewhere else. My uncle store is probably one of the oldest in the area. It's not like he doesn't have any skill to do something else. He just choose to manage the store. Maybe he is happy, maybe he isn't. I don't know.

The illustration that relates to above discussion is that. The picture shows us the striking contrast between the old world and the new world. The old money and the new money. The past and the present. In the future, I reckon this contrast won't change and could probably be even worse, dystopia baby!.
