Siempre había escuchado de estas recetas naturales que las abuelas preparan en casa, esta vez, mi mamá me enseñó a preparar esta receta natural que mi abuela le enseñó a ella. A razón de que después de parecer de Covid, mi esposo y yo tenemos una recurrente tos (no fuerte ni constante), principalmente en las mañanas. Es un jarabe sencillo de hacer y que quiero compartir con todos los amigos que hacen vida en esta comunidad para que conozcan las bondades de plantas que quizás tienen en casa.
I had always heard of these natural recipes that grandmothers prepare at home, this time my mom taught me how to prepare this natural recipe that my grandmother taught her. Because after looking like Covid, my husband and I have a recurring cough (not strong or constant), mainly in the mornings. It is a simple syrup to make and that I want to share with all the friends who make life in this community so that they know the benefits of plants that they may have at home.

Ingredientes / Ingredients

  • Miel / honey
  • Sábila / aloe
  • Orégano Orejón / oregano
  • Aceite Vegetal / oil
  • Cebolla / onion
  • Ajo / garlic
  • Limón / lemon

El primer paso es cortar la sábila para sacar su cristal, corta los laterales dónde están las espinas y luego con cuidado quita toda la piel verde. Este paso no me gusta mucho pues el olor y la sensación del cristal de sábila en mis manos es terrible (risas) pero es soportable. Corta los limones, la cebolla y pela los ajos. Lava todo muy bien.
The first step is to cut the aloe vera to remove its crystal, cut the sides where the thorns are, and then carefully remove all the green skin. I don't like this step very much because the smell and sensation of the aloe vera in my hands is terrible (laughs) but it is bearable. Cut the lemons, the onion and peel the garlic. Wash everything very well.

Coloca en la licuadora los cristales de sábila, agrega también la cebolla, 3 dientes de ajo, y la ramita de orégano orejón (unas 6 hojas). Por último agrega el jugo de 3 limones.
Place the aloe crystals in the blender, also add the onion, 3 garlic cloves, and the oregano sprig (about 6 leaves). Finally add the juice of 3 lemons.

Además debes agregar 5 cucharadas de miel, y 5 de aceite vegetal. Puedes agregar más para procesar mejor, la miel suaviza el sabor y lo hace más ligero.
You must also add 5 tablespoons of honey, and 5 of vegetable oil. You can add more to process better, the honey softens the flavor and makes it lighter.

Procesa todo y luego cuela para retirar los grumos que puedan quedar y hacerlo más ligero.

Reserva en un envase y lleva a la nevera. Tu jarabe está listo. Mi recomendación es revolver antes de tomar, y hacer una toma en ayunas es suficiente. La sábila es muy buena para aquellos que sufren un poco de estreñimiento, así que además de ayudarte con la tos, este jarabe te puede servir como un laxante natural.
Reserve in a container and take to the fridge. Your syrup is ready. My recommendation is to stir before drinking, and taking one on an empty stomach is enough. Aloe Vera is very good for those who suffer from a little constipation, so in addition to helping you with a cough, this syrup can serve as a natural laxative.

Los beneficios de la miel y todos estos ingredientes contra los síntomas de la gripe o tos son múltiples, por eso es una gran combinación, además si tienes aceite de oliva puedes incluirlo ya que también aporta grandes beneficios contra enfermedades respiratorias.
The benefits of honey and all these ingredients against the symptoms of the flu or cough are multiple, so it is a great combination, also if you have olive oil you can include it since it also provides great benefits against respiratory diseases.

I have to admit that it doesn't look particularly appealing to drink. Hopefully it tastes better than it looks. Is the whole jar a serve or would you drink it in smaller amounts?

It is not as pleasant as commercial syrups, but it is not so bad that you vomit or not take it. My grandmother says "one drink a day," which means one tablespoon. My husband and I shared it and took it for almost 14 days.

A tablespoon seems more doable than the whole jar. 😆
