There is a saying in Zen Buddhism: "You should meditate for 10 minutes per day, if you are too busy you should meditate for an hour." Meditation is something that transcends religion and cultural boundaries. It is the fundamental technique used to access our inner guidance to connect with our higher self. In the modern world, people focus so heavily on "doing something".
They say "I must do something!". What if doing nothing was what you really needed to do? Many people have difficulty beginning because of this very reason. But meditation can be a key to becoming even more productive in your life, and improving relationships with the people around you.
When you meditate, you connect with yourself on a deeper level and can begin to understand yourself on the most fundamental level. You gain awareness of your thinking patterns, and awareness of how you treat other people. Meditation is the key to improving life in all aspects. All it takes is a few minutes everyday to sit with yourself, and become aware of your thoughts. You increasingly become more aware of the way you behave in life, and you can begin to make big or small changes. This can be a great way to improve yourself as a human being or to interrupt toxic behaviors that do not support the goals you want to achieve in life.
No matter your culture, religion or background. You can practice meditation. It is the fundamental key to a greater and more fulfilling life.
I agree with this. It is so good to take your mind off the matters and think of nothing.
I have learned that to have a chaotic and crazy busy life and then try to sit in meditation for 10 mins or an hour is hard. It integrates so much more easily and naturally when we start to LIVE slower first - to do more meditative tasks every day ... eat mindfully & silently, cook mindfully, garden with peaceful intent, walk with mindful intent - and then the sitting in meditation becomes a natural outflow.
