Back in October, I noticed in the foraging groups people had started making Rosehip Syrup, so armed with a carrier bag, scissors and some gloves I tracked around town picking from every rosehip bush I saw. Sometimes before the sun had even risen, to gather enough rosehips to make this syrup.
It is worth noting that Rose Hips come in a variety of different shapes and sizes depending on whether they are from a Wild Rose also known as a Dog Rose or a cultivated rose.
It doesn't look like a lot bit it took some gathering.
To make the Syrup I followed the recipe I found online at https://www.whatdadcooked.com/recipe/rosehip-syrup-foraged-wild-dog-rose-hips/
I went for the cooking of the rosehips as opposed to other recipes where people were steeping them in Jar with Sugar.
One thing I will say it was messy! I used a pillowcase as I had no muslin cloth, needless to say, the pillowcase will not be going back on the bed as it is now a pinky-orange tint to it!
I drank some of the Rosehip Syrup with Processo and it made a lovely drink and packed full of vitamins as well.
I have heard people use Rosehip Syrup to stave off coughs and colds and I am not surprised reading all of the health benefits. Apparently it is also used for rheumatoid arthritis as well as reducing pain in knee and hip osteoarthritis.
Congratulations, your post has been selected to be included in my weekly Sustainability Curation Digest for the Minnow Support Project.
Ohhh! How interesting this looks. Each country has its own fruits and customs. It is important to know them. I think it's very good that you take advantage of the resources that your environment offers. I did not know rose hips, where I live there is a tropical climate and I don't think they grow here. Greetings and blessings.
Ohhh! Saludo y bendiciones.
Thanks for the reply! Oh sometimes I could easily swap the wet and cold Welsh weather for something more tropical.
We have a few hedgerow berries as well like Blackberrys which grow in the wild and make lovely food.
I suppose they must be great in sauces that accompany salty food, but that drink that you present looks delicious and nutritious.
Supongo deben quedar geniales en salsas que acompañen la comida salada, pero esa bebida que presentas se ve deliciosa y nutritiva.
In prosecco? That's a new one. Very medicinal for sure, reminder to make a syrup myself, without the alcohol!
Yeah! I was shocked too, it was very tasty. So if going for an alcohol-free version maybe try some sparking alcohol-free wine with it?
I have never seen or heard of this fruit. It looks good, surely its taste is too. How good is that you could get free in your town 💕.
It does taste good, it does require a lot of sugar though to make it sweet. Mine probably had a bit too much in
