Great Meat Substitutes for Vegans and Others

You could be a vegan, or a vegetarian, or maybe you just wanna try to add something other than meat in a recipe. In this article, I’m going to go over some of the creative ways to substitute meat in cool dishes that turn out great. Most of the recipes mentioned are some I’ve tried that turned out great, but some I’ve heard of on the internet that seem interesting enough to try out. Without further ado, I present to you

Great Meat Substitutes for Vegans and Others

Meat substitutes:

Mushrooms!
Mushrooms are great meat substitutes, considering they have the same texture as meat cooked or raw. They are really soft and easy to cut. They are great in sandwiches, and you won’t even know the difference between mushroom and meat if you saute the mushrooms and place them in subs. And they cook quick! Actually very quick, and they saute in like, a minute, so make sure you don’t saute them for too long, as they will shrivel up and get burnt if you leave then cooking for too long.

FOODS MUSHROOMS GO GREAT IN:
#Subs
#Sandwiches (of course sandwiches you would put chicken in, not a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich or something.)
#Stir-frys
#Vegetable mixes
#Soups
For big mushrooms you can slice or stuff, I recommend Portabello mushrooms, and for little mushrooms you can cube or slice, I recommend Crimini mushrooms.

TOFU!

You may have seen or heard of tofu a lot on tv, but have you ever tried it!? When cooked, Tofu is a great meat replacement in stir frys and burritos and you can even eat them raw! Tofu can even be marinated in sauce to give a nice and rich flavor.

FOODS TOFU GOES GREAT IN:
#Stir-frys

#With rice
#With noodles
#In soup
#In veggie bowls

While there are many types of Tofu, some softer/firmer than others,you might wanna squish all the excess water out of the Tofu, since Tofu is super watery.

For smushing the excess juice out of Tofu, (if you have an uncooked block of Tofu) I recommend setting a cloth, then a paper towel on your kitchen counter. Then, on a cutting board cut the Tofu vertically into 3-4 pieces, then set those pieces of Tofu on the paper towel, then put another paper towel and cloth on top of the Tofu in that order, and put a pan on top of all of the cloth at the top, and let that whole clump sit for about at least two hours, and then when you lift everything off the Tofu, it will have all the juice out of it and be ready to cook.
