RE: Life at a Hippie Commune in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of Central California

Thank you for this beautiful description. I just love communities like this! All the knowledge can learn, while sharing your own with others. And also being surrounded by people who have a basic knowledge and understanding of what we call sustainability, is very relaxing. Reading your post made me remember similar places I visited over the years... and now I feel like visiting some more. And California is just perfect for that.

The only thing that was a bit strange to see, is burning the brush. Isn't there any better way of using this biomass? Obviously composting is really big on the site already.

Once again, thanx for the cool post!

Thanks for the comment, California is a great place for this type of lifestyle. The reason for burning so much brush is because there is so much small stuff we can never use it all for wood stove heat and bonfires, and mainly because we were burning a poison oak grove at the same time, so much of what you see is just burning poison oak branches... Very little is wasted, with all the leaves being used for compost and most of the dead wood burning for heat.
