Switching to shampoo bars had been one of the changes that we did after we moved out of our parents' house and started our own.

In the Philippines, we are used to buying sachets of shampoos each costing around 5 pesos each or $0.10. These can be used once or twice depending on your hair type and how often you took a bath. These sachets of shampoo use, plastics which we all know that is bad for the environment. Some used these plastics to create some crafts but in a typical household, it goes directly to the trash.

This is one of the main reasons why we switch to shampoo bars. As each shampoo bar bought is packaged into small papers we can eliminate the usage of plastics at the very least that time.

Aside from the environmental benefits here are some of the benefits of switching to shampoo bars.

It is much cheaper compared to shampoo bottles/sachets.

1 shampoo bar cost around 100.00 pesos / $2.00 some sellers are selling for a cheaper amount but from the shop where we always buy our supplies, it is around that much. Each shampoo bar lasts for 2 months versus buying shampoo bottles costing 150.00 / $3.00 depending on the brand, more or less it only lasts for 1 month.

It is natural and concentrated.

Since shampoo bars are made from natural ingredients it is safe and gentle to our scalps. This works perfectly for some of us that have concerns with our hair. For us men, as long as it lathers then we are all good. Just by rubbing small portions of the shampoo bar in our scalps since it is concentrated it immediately lather. Comparing to the liquid shampoos which are 85% water this is already a good deal.

They are multi-purpose.

The majority of shampoo bars can be a replacement for body wash and soaps. Even our pets are using it before as they are all-natural but lately, we found out that NaturesTale created soap especially for pets hence we bought one for our pets and they loved it.

You are supporting small businesses

Buying branded shampoos only help the major players. But by buying handmade products like these bars you also support small-time business owners. You are assured that the quality is good as they are also using their products. Also when you become a regular customer from them they are sending freebies.

What are your thoughts on switching to shampoo bars? Have you tried one already?

I have - and in the end, I didn't like them! I persisted for months but my hair felt heavy and lacklustre no matter what brand I tried, so I went back to ordinary shampoo - still, I refill a bottle at wholefoods and use natural products so I think it's okay.

I have the same experience too! I felt that after using the bar my hair feels a little odd. Not familiar with the heavy feeling but felt that it is really dry after rinsing. As a remedy, what I use after is the conditioner bar. I don't use it that often as we don't usually go outside though 😂 it is staying in our bathroom form more than 4 months now.
