There's an old truism — forgive me, but I don't know the source — that goes something like this:
"Blowing out someone else's candle does not make your own burn any brighter"
Yet many people in our world choose to do just that, in one form or another. And in these difficult times, it seems like anything that resembles dissent or a divergent perspective is often forcefully stamped out.
It often makes me want to ask the question "WHY do you choose to put so much time and energy into proving dissenters WRONG, rather than putting that time and energy into showing how YOU are RIGHT?"
Sometimes, we can observe that entire careers or organizations are built on tearing down, while they actually BUILD just about nothing of their own.
How can we possibly hope to BUILD a better world, if we focus so much on tearing people down? Often people who "Dare" to create alternatives to the status quo.
And sadly, sometimes that "dismantling" of those who represent something allegedly undesirable is based on ignorance, rather than fact. And people act out, based on their fears and biases, rather than anything real and tangible.
Millions and millions of people have died because of such ignorance.
Many have suffered and failed because of "I can't stand the idea that you're succeeding at something, so I'm going to do whatever I can to make you FAIL!" mentalities.
It's one thing to want to have things in your life turn out a certain way; certainly that is a basic freedom. It's quite another to insist that anyone who doesn't think and feel as you should be silenced and/or torn down.
In Other News...
This post is a bit of an experiment.
Seems our insignificant little account has gained a new "fan club," concerned with voting our posts down to zero rewards for — as far as I can tell — little other reason than our getting a periodic upvote from an account that used to be a bidbot on Steem, but now curates 100% manually on Hive. We've never asked for votes, nor bought votes.
But I guess (getting back to that "ignorance" I was mentioning before) they never took/take the time to actually examine and update the metrics they use... and consider that this isn't Steem.
It's a bit sad, and I send them my blessings and wish for their fears to be healed... if you actually feel compelled to negate other people's support of a charity, that's a head-shaker. But that's the weakness of auto-voting, I suppose.

Thank you @riverflows. I think it's an automated system created by someone who really hated "bid bots" on Steem; now they are just using their same downvote list here on Hive, even though there are no bidbots here, and the former bidbot accounts mostly delegate and curate manually now.
Whereas it is sad, what's the point of losing sleep over automated ignorance?
