Simple dinner with Paratha

Bangladesh is a country where every girl learned cooking from their childhood as a long tradition of Bangladeshi society. And every family is conscious about preparing their girls to be perfect housewives and that becomes a very important factor during the marriage! My fiancé often tells me that in China where he is doing his Ph.D. very few people cook food in their homes and most of the girls don’t cook like the males in Bangladesh. I was shocked the first time but it is due to their business with work. But most of the students from Bangladesh who go abroad always cook their own food to cut the cost of the canteen or restaurants regardless of gender. And I am happy that I love cooking and every day try to learn something new to cook for myself. And it will also help me to be an ideal housewife soon also!

‘Paratha’ is a kind of oil-fried tortilla made with wheat flour in some simple steps. But the taste of the ‘Paratha’ is so delicious and it can be eaten in the morning as breakfast or in the evening as a snack and even at night as dinner. Though there is a non-oil-fried of the same thing that we called ‘Ruti’ which I use to prepare. I have never prepared the ‘Paratha’ before as didn’t know about the step by steps procedure. Recently I have learned how to prepare the ‘Paratha’ and I have prepared my dinner with the ‘Paratha’ with fried eggs and my favorite salad!

Ingredients for Paratha, Fried eggs and Salad

  • Wheat flour
  • Cooking oil (mustard oil)
  • Salt
  • Rolling tools (traditional)
  • Onions
  • Eggs
  • Tomato
  • Cucumber
  • Green chilies
  • Turmeric powder

Steps

I take a bowl and take a cup of flour and pour the necessary amount of water and salt and at last, a few amounts of oil and mixed it properly to make two pieces of dough. The added oil will make the ‘Paratha’ a crispy one. After making the dough, I kept it covered for 20 minutes.

I take a ‘Belon’ and ‘Pira’ which are cylindrical wood pieces with wooden cutting chop especially for making these types of flour discs. T make a ‘Paratha’ a disc is prepared. I put some oil then above this oil I throw some dry flour and melt the discs together and rolled like a rope. The rope is again placed closely in a round shape to make the final disk with the help of the rolling tools. And, finally, the uncooked version of the ‘Paratha’ disk is ready.

Finally, to make a soft, fluffy with multiple layers and crispy ‘Paratha’ I put some oil in my pan and place the final disc when the oil is properly heated. The ‘Paratha’ needs to toggle frequently for cooking its both sides properly. And within 5 minutes the final ‘Paratha’ is ready to eat!

To prepare egg fry I cut two onions and two green chilies then I take a pan and I put some mustard oil to make it heated. When the oil is properly heated I placed the chopped onions and chilies. After three minutes I have broken two eggs in it. And also I added some turmeric powder and salt to it and stirred it properly. After another two minutes, the egg fry is ready to eat with the delicious ‘Paratha’.

To make a general salad I take one tomato, one cucumber, one onion, and two green chilies and chopped them properly, and mixed them evenly by adding some salt and mustard oil

This is my first time making a ‘Paratha’ and it was a delicious dinner for me! I hope you enjoyed my simple recipe for a delicious breakfast or dinner!
