Tandoori Mahal | Indian restaurant in Zaragoza (Spain) | Food review [ENG-ESP]

Hello everyone! I recently went for the second time to eat at an Indian restaurant in my city. I find it interesting to post on Hive, since it is an international platform, when we try dishes from other countries because I am sure they are very different from when they are eaten in their original country.

This time I visited Tandoori Mahal with 3 friends, one of them is allergic to nuts, avocado, coconut, mango and all stone fruits. So considering that coconut milk is used a lot in Indian dishes we had to warn the staff beforehand about my friend's allergies to avoid being put on a dish that would force us to go to the hospital afterwards 🤣. But fortunately, everything went well.

¡Hola a todos! Hace poco fui por segunda vez a comer en un restaurante indio de mi ciudad. Me parece interesante publicar en Hive, dado que es una plataforma internacional, cuando probamos platos de otros países porque estoy segura de que son muy distintos a cuando se comen en su país original.

En esta ocasión visité Tandoori Mahal con 3 amigos, uno de ellos es alérgico a los frutos secos, al aguacate, al coco, al mango y a todas las frutas con hueso. Así que teniendo en cuenta que en los platos indios se utiliza mucho la leche de coco tuvimos que avisar previamente al personal de las alergias de mi amigo para evitar que nos pusieran un plato que nos obligase a ir al hospital después 🤣. Pero afortunadamente, todo salió bien.

I completely forgot to take a picture of the outside of the restaurant, but I did take some pictures of the inside. We sat down at the table we had reserved and I noticed that they had set a rather large plate for us. We ordered a tasting menu for 4 people, for 59,99€ total, which included a little bit of everything since for my companions it was the first time they came to this restaurant.

While we were waiting we wanted to taste an Indian blonde beer, called Cobra. It has a mild flavor and an intense golden color.

Olvidé por completo hacerle una foto al exterior del restaurante, pero sí que hice algunas del interior. Nos sentamos en la mesa que teníamos reservada y observé que nos habían puesto un plato bastante grande. Pedimos un menú degustación para 4 personas, por 59,99€ el total, que incluía un poco de todo ya que para mis acompañantes era la primera vez que venían a este restaurante.

Mientras esperábamos quisimos degustar una cerveza rubia india, llamada Cobra. Es de sabor suave y un color dorado intenso.

I also took the opportunity to take some pictures of the interior decoration, as they had costumes, hats, some paintings and tapestries.

Aproveché también para hacer algunas fotos de la decoración del interior, ya que tenían trajes, gorros, algunos cuadros y tapices.

The first thing they brought us was naan bread, of two varieties. One had cheese inside, the other did not.

Lo primero que nos trajeron fue el pan naan, de dos variedades. Uno llevaba queso en su interior, y el otro no.

Then they brought us the chicken tikka, and another small casserole (or "karahi", I think) with veal in a sauce that I couldn't say what it was called, but it tasted like ginger and although it seemed that the chicken sauce, being red, would be the spiciest, it was the other way around, the veal was a little spicier but not overly so.

Después nos trajeron el pollo tikka, y otra cazuelita (o "karahi", creo) con ternera en una salsa que no sabría decir cómo se llamaba, pero sabía a jengibre y aunque pareciese que la salsa del pollo al ser roja iba a ser la más picante, fue al revés, la ternera tenía un poco más de picante pero no algo exagerado.

They also brought three sauces to go with the bread. One was mint, one was spicy, and one was mango with onion that tasted sweet.

También trajeron tres salsas para acompañar con el pan. Una era de menta, otra era picante, y otra era de mango con cebolla que sabía dulce.

Finally they brought everything else in a huge casserole so that we could serve what we wanted on our plates. Here inside came two types of rice: one was yellow with vegetables, and the other on the left was a rice with chickpeas. On top we had shrimp tikka, fish pakoras, vegetable pakoras, seekh kebab, chapali kebab, and malai boti.

Por último trajeron todo lo demás en una cazuela enorme para que nos sirviésemos lo que quisieramos en nuestros platos. Aquí dentro venían dos tipos de arroz: uno era de color amarillo con verduras, y el otro de la izquierda era un arroz con garbanzos. Por encima teníamos las gambas Tikka, pakoras de pescado, pakoras de verduras, seekh kebab, chapali kebab, y malai boti.

The casserole was deeper than it looked and I ended up so full that in my case I didn't order dessert, but two of my companions did, and by the way I tried them. My allergic companion could not try any dessert because they all had something he was allergic to.

They ordered a sweet called Halwa, which has cornstarch, saffron, nuts, and sesame seeds. The appearance was orange in color. When I tasted it, what I noticed most was the taste of cornstarch, they were fluffy, but I didn't notice that they were very sweet.

La cazuela era más profunda de lo que parecía y acabé tan llena que en mi caso no pedí postre, pero dos de mis acompañantes sí, y de paso los probé. Mi acompañante alérgico no pudo probar ningún postre porque todos tenían algo de lo que le daba alergia.

Pidieron un dulce llamado Halwa, que lleva maicena, azafrán, frutos secos, y semillas de sésamo. El aspecto era de color naranja. Al probarlo lo que más noté fue el sabor de la maicena, eran esponjosos, pero no noté que fuesen muy dulces.

They also ordered Ras Malai. They had solid balls of milk, wheat and corn flour, pistachio, almonds and coconut.

También pidieron Ras Malai. Que llevaban bolitas sólidas de leche, harina de trigo y maíz, pistacho, almendras y coco.

And this was my experience. I didn't expect the tasting menu to include all the things in that casserole at the end, but it was beautifully presented and we ended up quite satiated, tasting a little here and there. It's a cozy place and although when we arrived there were few people because we arrived earlier than expected, when we left they had quite a few tables occupied.

Y esta fue mi experiencia. No esperaba que el menú degustación fuese incluir todas las cosas en esa cazuela del final, pero estuvo bonita la presentación y acabamos bastante saciados, probando un poco de aquí y de allá. Es un lugar acogedor y aunque cuando llegamos había poca gente porque llegamos más temprano de lo previsto, cuando nos fuimos tenían bastantes mesas ocupadas.
