My Favorite Korean Side Dishes

My love for food had grown over the years, making me try other dishes from different cooking styles or recipes. Aside from getting my tummy happy, I also found comfort in eating and I think most of you will agree with how a good portion of food helps in our moods.

And if you are following my previous food blogs, you already know that I got hooked to Samgyeopsal lately. This is why I have been targeting restaurants that let us grill beef and pork meats, and eat them with side dishes in Korean-style. Now let me share with you a blog that contains mouth-watering photos of my favorite side dishes when eating samgyeopsal.

Some of you may already have tried the different side dishes served when ordering or having your samgyeopsal. But here's my version of what I always request for whenever we are having the grilling night. When the menu is showed to us, I will first check if they have the Odeng, also known as "Fish Cake" since it's my favorite side dish. It always comes first on the list!

I have no idea what they are exactly made of, but love how its taste complements with the grilled meat. Also, I can eat it separately, which is a good thing while waiting for the meat to get cooked.

The next side dish that I love next to fish cake, is the "Potato Marbles". It is like sweetened mini potatoes that go well with meat too. I love the sweet sauce in it and I enjoy the dip.

When we are already in the peak of eating a lot, an appetizer must be there to keep us from grilling. And this is how the "Cucumber" works for us. It has a combination of spicy and sour taste, making it a perfect a side dish if you already ate a lot of meat.

And another side dish levels up my samgyeopsal experience because of the crunchiness and freshness of the vegetables. Let us not wait anymore, so here's the "Coleslaw". It is a mix of shredded carrots and cabbage, with some mayonnaise and other ingredients. My older brother and I both love this side dish, so it must also be on the list when we're eating together.

Lastly, we have the "Tofu". No offense to those who love tofu, but am not into it that much. I love this side when when partnered with the lettuce, meat, and cheese. But whenever I try to eat it alone, I am having a weird taste of it.

To everyone who haven't tried the samgyeopsal, now you saw how the table can be so colorful and mouth-watering because of the side dishes served together with the meat. For me, the meal will not be perfect without them.

Now let me give you a glimpse of how it looks like on our table. Actually, the side dishes were usually served in mini plates but since we were four people in one table, they asked if they can serve it in bigger plates. We put them in the middle, where they can be accessible to each of us when we started eating.

Overall, the side dishes are really important when having Korean-style grilled meat - not only as displays but also to level up and add spice to the pork and beef. Wrapping them up together with the meat, lettuce, and cheese will surely satisfy your tastebuds.

Now, here's a bonus! Take a look at my amazing food buddies. One of them is here (@teacherlynlyn), and she loves samgyeopsal as much as I do. These side dishes were also her favorites, for sure.
