The foods that we have prepared for New Year's Eve!

Here in the Philippines, we always celebrate the coming of the new year and we called it Media Noche. With Filipinos popular belief, during Media Noche, we usually grace our table with an army of gourmet dishes to bring in good luck and prosperity. So for our media noche, we have prepared and cooked different kinds of foods that are not just delicious but also foods that were believed to bring good luck.

The next food was Palitaw. Palitaw is a sweet and flat rice cake eaten in the Philippines. It was made from sticky rice soaked in water overnight and then milled. It was coated with coconut and sugar. It was commonly served during media noche as we believed that it symbolizes strong family ties knowing that it was made from a sticky rice.

And last but not the least, we also have different kinds of circle fruits. We have Grapes, Oranges, Apples, Melon, Watermelon, Guava, and Pear. These round fruits are the same shape as coin and eating money-shaped fruits were thought to bring in prosperous new year. And also the sweetness of the fruit is believed to bring good luck.
