Preparing Moong Dal Halwa

Moong dal halwa (sweet dish) is a delicious vegetarian halwa made from mung lentils (green gram lentils), ghee(clarified butter) and khoya (dried evaporated milk solids). A word of caution, that it takes a lot of time and it needs work from the hands because we need to continously stir, stir and stir it.

This is what we are going to prepare

Let's go through the recipe om making delicious moong dal ka halwa.

1 At first we will soak 1 cup of moong dal in water and keep it for 4 hours.

2 Then we will drain the water and grind the moong dal to a smooth paste.

3 Then we will add around 1 small cup ghee into the Kadai. We should use non stick pan preferably Kadai.

4 Once the ghee is melted we will add the grinded moong dal to the kadai.

5 Now we need to start stirring. As this will be kadai, at first it will stick, so we need to continously stir on the low flame and make sure it should not stick at the bottom of the kadai. What we actually need to do is to scarp and then stir continously.

6 Keep on stirring the halwa on a low to medium flame and make sure it will not stick. The raw aroma of the moong dal should go away completely so till then we should continue stirring it. At first the halwa is pasty and then it will start getting lumpy and then it will start to break down and get separated.

7 Once the halwa becomes light brown in color, we should add the khoya into it. The khoya we have already prepared at home.

9 After like 5 minutes, we should keep it off the flame. Then we will add 4 cup of water and 2 cup of sugar to make a Sugar Syrup. After the sugar mixes and it becomes little thick we should add the cooked moong dal ka halwa in it.

11 Now it's time to give it some shape, I will give it a square shape and let it cool for 2 hours
