FOODlog #792: Rice & Curry on Banana Leaf

2 weeks ago we went to the park with some friends on a school holiday. It was a park that we haven't been to before and it's built at an area where it has a natural stream to play at. The kids enjoyed themselves and our short morning trip, we went for lunch at a restaurant called 'Banana Bro'.

They don't actually serve bananas though. It's a place that serves localized Indian cuisine on banana leaves. They serve really nice curries paired with sides of vegetables, papadoms, and of course - rice.

It's an all-you-can-eat so you pay RM8.50 (<2.50 USD) and you can have as many servings of rice, curry, vegetables, and papadoms as your hearts content. For that they, the curries that were being served were chicken curry, fish curry, crab curry, and dhall. The vegetables were cucumber raita that was really refreshing and paired really nicely with the curry, stir fried turmeric cabbage, and deep fried battered snake gourd slices that were crispy and a favorite among the kids.

For myself I had chicken curry and dhall to eat together with my rice. The vegetables were all cooked well although I prefer when they serve their masala potatoes instead which were replaced with the cabbage this time. They normally alternate between masala potatoes, masala pumpkin, and stir fried turmeric cabbage.

The papadoms were also super good that day - crispy and crunchy. We also got ourselves a cup of 'rasam' which is a sourish soup that's very appetizing and wakes up the tastebuds instantly.

It was a delicious meal with friends and family after a short outing in the morning.

Banana leaf under the rice and curry is actually a great idea. Well, I used to do that when I visit my hometown. A great memory I have. Truly the great yummy recipe! Thanks for sharing with us.

Yes its very popular here in Malaysia.

Mmm that looks so yummy! I have never been to the restaurant but I would love to try their food out one day as it is not far from where I am. Thanks for sharing.
