In author's personal point-of-view, getting sick [e.g. having a fever] isn't all about feeling weak and all. Thus, it also revolves on fulfilling the needs for healthy consumption in order to fastly feel better and gain back the usual energy level.

Starting by the 2nd day of January, early symptoms [including runny nose and itchy throat] of flu begins to manifest within my system. When Wednesday arrives, mild fever starts to occur. By Thursday afternoon to Friday morning, my body temperature plays around 39 to 40°C. An indication of high-grade fever.

Upon those days of feeling sick, I only wanted to focus on two things: garner enough time to rest [physically and mentally] and eat a lot.

Unlike other people who lost their appetites whenever sickness occur, I feel the opposite. During these days, I want to consume a lot of food to fasten up the recovery phase. In short, personal cravings were uplifted.

What Shambhavi Devi, an Indian educator, said were undeniably true [based on experiences]:

" ... Nothing tastes better than the thing you want to eat right now."

Here are my food cravings when I was suffering from a fever and flu:

  • Sweet desserts and watermelon;
  • Pork sinigang with lots of green chillies;
  • Fried chicken with spicy gravy;
  • Fried isaw (fried chicken intestines); and
  • Fried mushroom.

Most of it had already been consumed, thanks to my parents. However, fried isaw and fried mushroom haven't yet satisfied and I am still craving for it until now.

In this blog, let me share this easy recipe of how to prepare "crispy fried mushroom!"

"Fried mushroom is ... a Filipino fried food made up of mushroom, all-purpose flour, cornstarch, egg and seasonings."

Just a short trivia, mushroom is not a plant but a fungi usually associated to plants and crops. Hence, it is also consumed as an edible fruit body. However, not all species are edible as many species contains toxins which are poisonous.

Here are the easy steps to prepare "fried mushroom" in 30-minutes:
  • First, do the "mise en place". Prepare all the needed tools and ingredients stated above.

For the mushroom, I used "oyster mushroom" because button mushroom isn't available in the area. remove the base part (hard part) and wash with clean water. Make sure to remove the dirt [e.g. soil] and drain to exclude excess water.

  • Second, prepare the breeding mixture. Mix all-purpose flour and cornstarch then add seasonings such as salt, finely-ground pepper, etcetera.

Afterwards, coat the mushrooms with the breeding mix.

  • Third step, dip the coated mushrooms into the beated eggs.

After a few minutes of preparation, here are the coated and dipped mushrooms:

  • Next, fry the oyster mushrooms in a hot pan. It can be deep-fried or with minimal amount of oil.

In my case, I preferred to use teflon pan which do not requires a lot of oil to be used. I ain't a fan of too oily foods ey.

After minutes of frying, here is the finished outcome. Presenting the "crispy and low-salted fried mushrooms" prepared by myself:

Partner it with any dip like vinegar with onions and cucumbers or gravy. Then, serve while hot and crispy and ENJOY!

What annoyed me lang talaga when I'm sick is, yong imbes na mawalan ng gana sa pagkain, mas lalo akonh nagtatakaw just like you, hahahanep yan. Imbes na mamayat ee lalo pang tataba no, lol.

Anyways, that looks yummy naman. Wala kaming mabilhan ng fresh mushroom here ee sayang man. Sarap sana nito sa suka na maangahang.
