Tiramisu and Oreo handcrafted Ice Rolls with waffles in Düsseldorf, Germany

in Foodies Bee Hive2 years ago (edited)

Hi Hivefriends,

Today I want to tell you about a really great taste experience I had the day before yesterday in Düsseldorf.

I went to Düsseldorf with a friend because we wanted to see the city again. Düsseldorf is about half an hour away from Düsseldorf by train and with our student ticket we got there for free.
I don't know if it's an ice cream parlour or a waffle shop I'm introducing you to today. I think I can call it more of an ice cream parlour, because it's all about ice cream and how it's made.

Later I found out that the shop doesn't exist in Cologne, but only in Düsseldorf. It's also supposed to be relatively new. What luck that we visited it in Düsseldorf, even though it was only spontaneous.
Even when we were strolling along the Rhine promenade, we kept seeing these beautiful waffles, which you now see more and more often on Instagram posts. And inside the waffle, ice-cream rolls. Until now, I didn't know where to find them.

If you feel the same way, I'll tell you the answer: the waffles and also the ice cream rolls are available at Rollacosta. The name fits, what do you say?
Rollacosta is located directly on Düsseldorf's Rhine promenade, on Burgplatz. Just take one street towards the Altstadt and you'll find the shop on the right-hand side.

I ordered a Tiramisu Handcrafted Ice Roll. And this is what it looks like:

And this is how the rolls are made:

There is a kind of "sauce" or rather mixture that is put on the ice-cream slab. Before that, maybe Oreo biscuit pieces are chopped up on the slab. The platter is very chilled so it only takes a few seconds for the mixture to solidify so that it is no longer liquid. But it also doesn't get so solid that you can't shape it anymore.

Then the mixture is spread thinly on the plate so that it is no longer a lump. This is done until there is a very thin wide layer on the plate.

Then a scraper (I think it looks like those things you use for painting lol) goes under the layer and it rolls itself into a roll.

I always love it when you can watch your own food being prepared. And considering that it was the workers first day at work (she told us), she did a really good job. There were a total of four rolls for my cup. That may not sound like much, but they were relatively big and I got my fill.

My friend also ordered these ice cream rolls in a waffle. The waffles here have a great look!, with Oreo. On top of our rolls, we each had a dark chocolate sauce. There are also different flavours you can try.

Compared to other "ice cream parlours", Rollacosta is expensive. We paid about 7 euros each. But Rollacosta is no ordinary ice cream parlour, you can watch how the ice cream is made and if you want you can eat the ice cream in a waffle. If you want to try the shop, you'll have to come to Düsseldorf. As far as I know, they are only in Düsseldorf so far. But I'm sure they will expand;)
I can definitely recommend Rollacosta, it was very tasty and the food looks great.

See you next time :)

This is the street view were they are located:

You reminded me, I have had this type of ice cream once - a long time ago. That was a bizarre experience 😁 And same as you, we paid quite a lot more for it.

Rollacosta

Fits! 😁

oh really ? i thought it was someting new hehe. haha sounds good i loved it!

They look absolutely yummy ☺️👍

They are just little bit expensive but its worth it:)

Yep we always need to pay more for luxuries in life but as you say it's worth it 😊

In a shopping center where I live there was a kiosk that sold that type of ice cream, they were very rich. valves closed the kiosk.

it's a pity that the kiosk was closed, yes it's definitely a good idea to earn money, the ice cream can be sold for much more than normal ice cream;)

OMG! These look very yummy! 🤤😍 I have seen this technique on videos but reading your blog made me want to eat one.

Yeah they were one of the best ice creams i ever ate, especially the waffle i tried from my friend:) maybe you have a similar shop in your environment :)

I have never tried this kind of ice cream here in our place but I really love it because it's so yummy in your photo 😍 I hope to try it soonest!

yeah with waffles its even better!:)

Seems yummy! In this case, you can say that you eat with your mouth and also with your eyes 😝 Thanks for sharing!

hahaha true thats very cool haha:) thanks for commenting!

I must travel to Dusseldorf only for these delicious things 😍😍😍

It's definitely worth it, and there are still lots of great things to see in Düsseldorf :)

Esto se ve demasiado bueno, excelente post para los amantes del dulce😋.

That's right, if you like sweets it should definitely be on the list :D

The rolling technique is really cool. I've never seen that before with ice cream. Rollacosta is a good name for the place.
Great choice with the tiramisu flavor as well!

I had only seen it on Instagram before and always wondered where to find something like that and then we spontaneously saw the shop in Düsseldorf's old town, what luck!

Looks delicious and mouth watering. The climate in Borneo is hot and humid, and so ice cream is my relief from the heat. I will wait for 31st of each month, because Baskin Robbins has a 31% discount on that day. It is their promotion because Baskin Robbins happen to have 31 flavours.

Such a cool down is perfect for a hot climate! 31 percent and 31 varieties definitely sounds very good! Thank you for stopping by:)
