The aroma of the hot chilli sauce with calamansi, the warm siomai, and the hanging rice, these truly make me drool.

Hey Hivers!

When I transferred to Cebu year 2004, I was able to discover the delicious siomai sa Tisa. Actually, I am not a siomai eater before I came to Cebu. However, when I discovered and tried this, I love the taste of the hot chilli sauce. That was the time I started to like siomai.

How I discovered Siomai sa Tisa?

During my first year in college, one of my classmates invited me to eat outside our school. She brought me to the food stall in the sidewalk of Sanciangcko Street in Cebu City and told me to try the siomai sa tisa. As I saw and smelled the chilli sauce it was the time I realized that it was too different to other siomai sauce that I had tasted before. The aroma of the chilli sauce was enticing.

So I asked the vendor to give me 1 piece of siomai at first and then another one because it was definitely delicious.

It was called Siomai sa Tisa because that is the place where the food originated. Tisa is a place located in Labangon, Cebu, Philippines.

The History of Siomai sa Tisa

It began in June 1, 2001 when the owner of halo-halo snack house, Jeffrey Quillosa, told his cook to make a delectable partner for his halo-halo. Siopao was served quickly but the cook also introduced the first ever Siomai in Tisa, Labangon. Several days after, siomai gained more attention from the customers. They increased the number of siomai produced almost everyday. However, in whatever business, competition is almost always just around the corner. Patrons either from their neighboring barangays to as far as the neighboring towns followed the siomai trend. Today, you can see a siomai establishment almost every corner of the city.source

I stopped here yesterday and had my lunch in this food store after I ran an errand.

I asked the crew to serve me 2 pork siomai and 2 japanese siomai. The Japanese siomai is more expensive, it cost php10.00 each (or around $0.21) while the pork siomai is only php7.00 each. I paid php34.00 (or around $0.71) for the 4 pieces of siomai.

This is the mouth-watering hot chilli sauce. To make it more yummy just squeeze the calamansi and mix the calamansi juice in siomai sauce.

Do you also have hanging rice in your place? We usually preferred this when we eat street finger foods like siomai, bbq, tempura, ngohiong and etc. The hanging rice and these street foods are definitely a perfect match. It costs php6.00 each.

I asked the crew if she could take a photo of me and she did it well.

I went home with a full tummy. I have a big craving for this for the past few days and yesterday it was craving satisfied.

It is the perfect combination, Siomai and Puso. Way back in school, I would have it all year round, either for lunch or snacks. I had a peculiar way of eating it. I often paired it with gravy or ketchup plus its original sauce. Have some !PIZZA !discovery 10
