This is like an intermezzo from my Hivefest 10 experience
This time, I’ll talk about all the coffee and foodie adventures I had. It’s almost like a separate story on its own and I’ll just keep them in one long post to memorize the places in case I am going back to Malaysia and want to reminisce about the memories I had there. Thank you so much @davidke20, @elizacheng, @bitrocker2020 & @littlenewthings for making this another memorable trip and showing us some great recommendations of places to check out.
Stellar Coffee
🧷80, Jalan Sultan, City Centre, 50000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
This one is located inside the REXKL which was also the venue of hivefest10. They serve specialty Malaysian grown coffee & they roast their own coffee. I highly recommend this place if you’re into liberica coffee and some specialty ones. I am sorry @ninaeatshere, I forgot to take you to this place, maybe next time 😆 but anyone traveling to KL, try this coffee if you’re into some good experience and wanting to understand Malaysian coffee.
Fluffed Cafe @ Petaling Street
🧷 14, Jalan Sultan, City Centre, 50000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
While looking for a place to actually get some work done, I saw this cafe being recommended on google. I had fairly low expectations but I was pleasantly surprised that their coffee was not that bad. I had lavender coffee and the place was pretty much instagrammable. Later I found out that this cafe is actually pretty famous. I guess @walterjay was right, I can spot a good cafe from miles away 😂
They also serve cakes and massive waffles that if you love those things, they are actually a must-try. I am not so much into sweets, so I don’t care much about it but I tried their Onde-onde cake and that was such a good one.
New Paris Restaurant
🧷 No. 62, 64, 66, Jalan SS 2/72, SS 2, 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia
@davidke20 and @elizacheng wanted to take us to Nasi lemak bumbung which seemed like it was near the petrol station and was actually a place I went to 8 years ago. But unfortunately, it rained and we ended up switching to a place called New Paris Restaurant.
What a name! It’s like New Paris but they serve chinese food. Well, I do love their round table and that was something so interesting that we can flip around the table and share the meal together. I wish more restaurants were like this, it’s very convenient.
It was great fun and food and I remember laughing at @cryptospa’s question and that everything in this table looks exotic for him 😂
Now, I need to learn how to make these Guinness braised short ribs. I didn’t know we could use Guinness to cook. I only know how to drink them.
Tang Fei Dessert Seapark
8, Jalan 21/11b, Sea Park, 46300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia
When I posted a picture of this to my whatsapp, my friends thought I was into eating turtles.
Well, thankfully that isn’t a real turtle, it’s just a jelly shaped turtle. While having this desserts, @ryenneleow was teaching me some Mandarin. I learned many new words including 哥哥帅哥 [Gēgē shuàigē] and 我想要水妈妈 [Wǒ xiǎng yào shuǐ māmā]. To me that was my chance to show off my poor mandarin skills hahaha
Their dessert was sugar bomb and rush but it was great. Here’s like a funny frame where I was taking picture of @detlev & everyone while he takes picture of @cryptospa 😂
Daanika Mithai Cafe
🧷 Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple, Subramanyam St, Batu Caves, 68100 Batu Caves, Selangor, Malaysia
8 years ago I really wanted to try pani poori and this time, that was a dream come true! I finally satisfied my curiosity of my pani poori, laddu and jalebi. They also serve this 3 layers coffee that was so refreshing and this is where I talked to @yunnie and @demotruk more than before 😄and I guess showed up my mandarin skills to Yunnie that I earned the previous night with ryenne.
I saw @ninaeatshere walking past us, so I suppose it was certified great because she’s a foodie. Unfortunately, she missed our next spot, the Oh Banana leaf!
Oh Yeah Banana Leaf Batu Caves
🧷 NO 1 DOLOMITE PARK AVENUE, 68100 Batu Caves, Selangor, Malaysia
This place serves interesting nasi lemak in bamboo leaves. I am not so much into rice 😀but it was a great experience to try something new. They hit the bamboo to take out the mixture and it was a whole experience on its own. I saw @akumagai loving the sambal paste. I thought it wasn’t that spicy but apparently, that takes a while.
I learned from @littlenewthings about table manners and how to fold our banana leaves. Thankfully she told all of us to do it. Otherwise, all the staff there got confused because it seemed like we didn’t enjoy the food while we did.
Nam Heong Chicken Rice, Jalan Sultan
56, Jalan Sultan, City Centre, 50000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
If you’re looking for something featured in a Michelin guide for 3 years consecutively, try this Nam Heong. @walterjay was the one who suggested this place. I won’t say no to noodles and pork on the same plate. So, there we were, getting something to eat before we were headed to saturdaybeernight.
Their pork was good, no wonder they got the michelin guide for it. If you’re into some good treat, try Nam Heong, not the one in the mall but the one in Chinatown, that’s where the good deal is with some authentic experience.
Neighbour Club by JWC
🧷 70, Jalan Sultan, City Centre, 50000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
This is a spot that I found while walking to get some food around the area. I was like, “ this looks like the cafe I love!” It turns out they sell cocktails that are pretty good. It’s like if a cocktail has a variant, this is the place to be.
They have such an interesting concept and I ordered champagne night and Walter tried the pink elephant. The music in the place was so good to vibe with. We ended up getting one more round and thankfully, I can still wake up the next day for church 😂 except I had a worse case of water retention after. Now, I learned my lesson.

Some more recommendations, honestly, I forgot the place name but I finally tried Ikea meatballs too 😂 while we have it in Indonesia, my friend was suggesting that I try it there. To be honest, the meatball was pretty okay and it’s unfortunate the chicken was too oily. I would have loved it more. I love the fish and chips in the previous place we went to.
I had such a good food experience here and lots of coffee too 😀funnily enough, with all that eating, the walking part sort of adjusted my scale. Once I was home, I thought I’d gained a few more pounds but I was 6 pounds lighter hahahaahaha . Suppose all I need was really just someone to walk with and explore around & in time, I don’t have to swim 5 times a week just to shed some pounds 😄
Once again, thank you everyone, (@aswita and @viviehardika included) , for the awesome experience and all the memories we had in these places. I’ll always cherish these and hope to have some more foodie adventure with y’all.
Dolomite is very near to my house, up north of Kuala Lumpur. I only went up the cave twice in my life.
As for Nam Heong, next time go Ipoh and visit the No.1 , the original shop before they started franchising away.
Glad to be part of your KL food journey.
I only went once and that time, I didn't even want to go haha. I got scared with the monkeys as I brought my camera with me & glasses too.
Thank you for that information, I love their bbq pork and definitely would come back for some heavy meal 😄
Definitely keeping this post for reference in KL, Hivefest was just an excuse to eat good food with good people. Loved our time together and I am sure I will be back to at least one of those places in the future.
Those pictures will stay around as good memory to me.
Thank you for being part of my journey here.
Walter.
I’m really glad we got to share those moments and all that good food 😄. There’ll always be more food and coffee adventures waiting 😜
According to this post, everyone gained a couple of kilograms of weight, and adding all the coffees, I would say that nobody slept at HiveFest at all! There was no need for accommodation at all... 🤣
(Note to myself: I have to stop reading HF posts, as every time I regret more and more for not going! 😂)
hahahahaha I don't remember ever sleeping and I guess you're right, there was no need for a place to stay 🤣. It was all endless food, laughs, conversation and obviously dozen of coffees, cocktail and sometime beers
Awesome foodie and coffee hunt you have there... And I just we need to discipline ourselves and not to be in our comfortable non-walker group all the time... We need some walker friends to walk with and hunt for more food and coffee... Then we won't have to be too worry about our weight 😎😬
We definitely need some walker friends haha they help us staying fit with all the stuff we're consuming 🤣
This is like a summary of recommended restaurants for travelers.
By the way, Neighbour Club is my fav, because they were provided everything, include the 'sambungan colokan' :D
That's great to know! I hope they won't get too famous and stays as a chill place. I wished indonesia had similar style coffee, cocktail place too 😊
hmmm this gathering is awesome experience

Indeed! It was such an awesome experience and one that I won't forget 😊
It is so wonderful to see your entire foodie records at a go. And yes, New Paris is New hence the "not Western" food comes in haha. I really wished I could attend but by the time all is done it was 11pm and you guys would have called it a day.
Glad that I double checked with the table manners as well, and I am sure everyone had great experience with the bamboo knocking melody all the way haha.
Looking forward for the next round of foodie journey!
🤣 I could write them separately but I reckon it's best to keep them at one go before moving on to some other new things. I am already behind of posting my experiences around. That's why. Besides it's nice to find all of them in one place and who knows, I'll look back one day visiting those places again and remembering a lot of things that happened.
When we visited BKT place, I was really overjoyed and nostalgic. It showed how I grew as a person and that while the place doesn't change, it was me who totally transformed and changed. I hope in the next few years, I'd come back feeling the same of those places here. Especially now with more people who gave me such a profound experience when I was there.
Wow, all those cafes and local dishes sound amazing! ☕🍜 Love how you combined food, coffee, and good company — the perfect HiveFest combo!
😄 While the HF food were also so delicious, I loved these mini adventures I had with the others as well. They're such a great company too and that's what made it so memorable.
OMG, one of my weaknesses is coffee! I'm a certified coffee lover that's why I suddenly fall in love every time I see a coffee in a post. 😆
hahahahaha you should check out that I also have a community called @brewville where you can talk about all things coffee.
Loved how you turned your HiveFest trip into a foodie adventure, every spot sounds worth visiting, especially the coffee places
Yep, one of my highlight from the visit was these intermezzo!
What an amazing review of a lot of amazing food ... and I love the term "intermezzo" as a musician!
That was all the food that I love! there were more but these places carried so much memory for me.
I just reliased that New Paris is actually close to my church! I think.... 😳 is it the one beside SS2, @davidke20?
Correct la. That's why I say after dinner crash into your church 😂
Aiyo, should have waited for you guys to come 😆

That was a great evening with all this lovely people and this delicious food.
The "death for sugar" place was as well - hmm, let's say "interessting" for a non sugar eater
