Chef Lagenda: Malaysian Restaurant Review

Good afternoon Hivians I hope you're all having a wonderful week, we're half way through the week and I have been going through a few restaurants locally that I'd like to revist for a meal.

I think the best part of living in Melbourne's West is the multiculturalism that we embody so well. I think I previously provided a rough overview of demographics in my area, with over 150 different nationalities calling the west home. A large cohort were born overseas.

The multiculturalism in Melbourne's West has created a hustling and bustling industry in the food sector. On any given night in Melbourne's West you can dine on another nations national dish cooked authentically.

We previously visited Chef Lagenda Restaurant in Deer Park which is owner operated by a wonderful local family who migrated to Australia a number of years ago. Their home cooking amongst friends and family led them to establish their own business which has morphed into quite the famous local eatery for traditional Malaysian cuisine.

One thing you will often see in cultural Restaurants in Melbourne and quite often across Victoria and I have noticed New South Wales does a similar thing. Is a numbering system on the menus. A dish will be listed in its traditional name often quite hard to pronounce for others so it is assigned a number. When ordering if you're not confident in calling the dish by it's native name you can provide the corresponding number to the waiter and they will know what you're after.

We weren't sure what to order so decided to order a number of items from the list. Who can go past traditional dumplings and spring rolls? I'm a fan of pork spring rolls but there are also prawn spring rolls.

Most the dishes on offer are not for cold pallets as alot of chilli is used in dishes. I'm not the biggest fan of chilli I often find it overpowers the dish, but in this instance the chilli really complemented what was on offer.

Chef Lagenda is a marvellous Malaysian restaurant located in Melbourne's West and a must stop by for a meal, being in a working class suburb it is really well priced and service is wonderful. A true migrant success story that has come to life. We'd recommend visiting and trying their hand made dumplings, they were my favourite!
