Mercato Mayfair • The Hallways of Divine Cuisine

How would you like to dine in an old church in London? I love visiting old churches and eating good food. The place that we visited is unique as it has the best of both worlds.

A food hub located in North Audley Street London. This used to be called St. Mark’s Church which was deconsecrated in 1974. It went thru some renovations and now is one of the hottest places and most unique places to visit in London.

Inside you would first see a coffee shop in case you would like to have some dessert or just have a cup of coffee after enjoying your meal.

3.jpg

Once you pass thru the cafe it will lead you to the hallways that used to be a place of worship and prayer. Now it is a food and cultural hub which is visited by a lot of people every day. We had trouble getting a table as there were a lot of people that day. I am just not sure which times and days are not crowded.

6.jpg

The place still looks very much like a church and does not seem that anything has been changed. It feels like I could almost hear a choir singing in the background.

7.jpg

Upfront the painted glass is maintained and the images of the Saints are still there.

8.jpg

The pews were replaced with chairs and tables where the visitors can eat. I never imagined that a place like this existed. At first, I was confused about how this was possible but it was explained to me that church was deconsecrated, and the religious blessings from this church were removed. With the religious process of how this is done, I am just not too sure about the details.

Drinks and different types of cuisine from all over the globe are served here. They have grilled meat, pizza, seafood, and European and Asian food. They would satisfy any of your cravings.

We cannot find any available seats downstairs so we checked upstairs to see if there are any more seats available.

There are many food options here and I had a craving for beef rendang. The name of the shop is Spice Lab and they offer a lot of Malaysian food.

Up here you would have a better view of the church and as you could see more and more people were coming in.

There were no more seats as well on the second floor but we were told there are still some seats on the rooftop.

17.jpg

The seating here looks comfortable enough but is a bit chilly up here. One of the other disadvantages is that your food will get cold more quicker in this area. You would need to eat fast if you would like to enjoy your hot meal.

The serving time took a while before it could get ready but it arrived eventually.

The beef rendang that we ordered cost £15.90. A bit expensive for us but I'm sure it will be worth it.

20.jpg

The beef rendang was served with salad, three scoops of colored rice, egg and fish crackers. Not the best beef rendang I had but it was alright.

21.jpg

As you could see the serving size is big and if you don't eat a lot it could be enough for two people.

22.jpg

After eating we found out that they had a cellar with various types of wine. I'm not sure if you could also eat here or just for wine drinking.

I'm not a big wine drinker and would not know the taste difference between a Merlot to a Chardonnay. All I know is that there are red, white, rose and sparkling. If any of you out there are wine connoisseurs just leave some comments.

Hope to see you again on our next adventure.
Cheers.

What an amazing place! I could not have imagined a food fair in an old church, it is incredible that it preserves inside the decoration of the church with the images of saints and everything. I guess even if the food isn't the best it's worth going to the place at least once out of curiosity.
Thanks for sharing:)

Definitely a must see place due to it's uniqueness. What used to be a quiet place for worship you can now drink, eat and have fun with family and friends. Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
