Hey @yaziris the shell does not become soft but you could crack it with a spoon. You can use a toothpick to pull them out.

Oh okay, sorry if this is a dumb question, but why don't they get pulled out and then cooked instead?
Wouldn't that be more convenient?
It would be difficult to pull out when not cooked. Meat is really small and wouldn't look good when cooking. Same as clams we don't remove the shell s when cooking. Plus sucking the shells is part of the experience.

We do have some strange to the rest of the world food over here in Syria too. And I surely tried all I can find.
Snails however, can't find that on the menu anywhere around here. Not that I know of.
