Hilsha Fish curry with Rice 🍛 | Authentic Bangadeshi Cousin.

This flavourful fish can change your whole experience with fish curry. It's our national fish so you can guess how attached we are to this dish.

The problem is, hilsha is a very bony fish. But as we use our hands to eat, we can easily pick the bones apart.

Many authentic dishes can be made with hilsha fish. One is simple spicy curry. It goes quite well with rice.

Here's the recipe.

Put onion, turmeric and chili powder, and salt in vegetable oil. And cook it for 15 minutes. Add water in intervals.

The fish is very soft, only takes a few minutes to cook. So cook the spices properly before adding the fish.

Here are the hills fish pieces. Add them when the spice is ready. Cook one side for one minute and then flip carefully so the fish don't come off.

After cooking another minute on the other side, add some green chilies and a small amount of sugar to balance the taste.

Then, add a good amount of water. If you are not gonna enjoy it with rice then add a small amount of water. The fish is so flavourful, it makes the whole curry delicious.

After 5-7 minutes turn off the heat and the curry will be ready to serve.

Hehe, I like seafood and hilsha fish looks so soft in the curry stew. No need to add vegetables to it?

We have a similar fish here we call shawa in our language but I don't know it's name in English. They kind of look alike! 😄

You can add vegetables but then the vegetables will sock all the flavor. I rarely cook that way but people also like adding vegetables.
