Salsa Shop 🌮 Introduction To Mexican Cuisine

in Foodies Bee Hive • last year

Ever had Mexican food? There was a time Mexican food was out of our reach but some time ago, we were asked to get a bite to eat at a local Salsa Shop and we immediately said "yes!" Since it's a diner in the Netherlands, I'm not sure how authentic it is to Mexican cuisine, but at least it'll give us an idea into what their flavor profile's like.

Salsa Shop's menu is fairly simple and straightforward: start with choosing your meal (burrito, taco, salad or rice with black beans), pick a filling (grilled chicken, grilled veggies, vegan chili, shredded beef or pulled pork), work your way to choosing a topping (tomatoes, corn, guacamole, etc.) and then select your salsa (cucumber yoghurt, zingy salsa verde, etc.) Ordering extra sides and varying as many toppings and salsas are also an option.

As I had a light lunch earlier, I went for the bulgur rice bowl with black beans (I should really learn how to prepare those beans) and the spicy shredded beef. For toppings I ordered all, except for the lettuce and I went with the cucumber yoghurt, rollin' roasted tomato and the zingy salsa verde.

The black beans were alright (I've had better in Curaçao) and the beef could've been spicier. They did have condiments ready at every table, for those who need more bite or tanginess. The overall taste of everything combined was - in spite of the room for improvement - appetizing and the beef was exceptionably tender. The toppings and salsa tasted freshly (made) and added to the flavor.

My co-food-adventurer had somewhat of the same bowl, filling and toppings, with some minor differences here and there. Unlike me, he also ordered marinated grilled chicken next to the spicy beef and some other salsa(s). Flavor wise overall we didn't taste much of a difference.

And that folks, was my first taste of Mexican cuisine. What should we try next from the Mexican kitchen? Let me know in the comments below 🤓.

Si tiene chiles está buena , felicidades y gracias por compartir

Ok, I'll remember that if it has chillis, it's alright and my pleasure to share some tips for those wondering where to eat whenever in the neighborhood/area.
