FOOD is Always a Great "PASALUBONG" <3

Have you ever heard the term, "PASALUBONG"? It's actually a kind of tradition in the Philippines wherein a person who travels to another place would bring something from the place he or she traveled to back home.

Usually, when a family member goes on a trip, he or she buys some souvenir/pasalubong to give the members left at home. Also, when some friends or relatives living in another place decide to visit your house, they also bring some souvenir or pasalubong. However, it doesn't only apply on traveling/trips. It's also applicable even when the person just go to a nearby store or shop... just like what my father did.

This morning, my father had to go somewhere to process some documents and the place he went to is in one of the biggest malls in Cebu, so we asked him to bring us some food as pasalubong since he's coming home around lunch time... and so he did! <3

He went to Tokyo Joe and bought some takeout for lunch for the three of us! Yaaay~!!! It's been a while since I had some food from Tokyo Joe. He bought two donburi dishes and one bento dish.

Donburi is a rice-bowl dish. Basically it's rice with some viand as toppings. Rice is really an essential part in Asian cuisine. :) I personally can't imagine not having rice at least once a day. Well, except when my mama cooks my favorite pasta dish. lol

The first image is beef misono while the second one is beef teriyaki. I've always been curious about the difference between the two, but I love them both. Misono is a kind of teppanyaki dish. Teppanyaki dishes are cooked in a "teppan" or a large metal plate while teriyaki dishes are called that because of the usage of teriyaki sauce.

Mama loves this bento box especially because of the shrimp tempura. haha

Basically, the bento box came with rice, tonkatsu or breaded fried pork, shrimp tempura and some vegetable salad as side dish. I can't eat shrimp, but I helped myself with a couple slices of tonkatsu. haha We shared all the dishes as we had them for lunch earlier and my tummy was indeed very happy!

This is simple joy and a piece of happiness brought about by pasalubong, How about you? WHat kind of pasalubong do you want? Do you want something to eat? or other types of souvenir?
