Typical Vietnamese Mooncake

in Foodies Bee Hive3 years ago

Hi all Hivers, how are you today?

Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the major holidays in Asian countries, including Vietnam. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, when the moon in the sky is the brightest and roundest of the year. The Mid-Autumn Festival is an occasion for everyone to gather and have some typical autumn dishes such as grapefruit, persimmons and especially indispensable Mooncakes

Children love the Mid-Autumn Festival so much because this is the occasion when lion dance troupes will dance and enter each house to perform. The street is filled with vibrancy and color. In my memory, I really enjoyed eating Mooncakes, a mixed cake that is soft on the outside and has a rich flavor on the inside

Caramel-colored mooncakes are made from flour and eggs and grilled for 30 minutes. Inside is the filling of sausages, pumpkin seeds, sesame, salted eggs
This cakes are served with a cup of green tea. When eating the cake is cut into 4 or 8 small pieces. Cakes are made into squares or circles to represent the moon. Sometimes mooncake is also molded into other interesting shapes like fish or flower

Moon cake is an indispensable dish in every Mid-Autumn Festival in my country. Cakes are sold for at least 1 month during the festival. Although nowadays there are many variations such as green bean cake, matcha cake, cakes with different flavors, but I still like to eat the traditional with mixed fillings the most. I often buy cakes at shops that have been selling for 20-30 years
