The world is a terrifying place. I have to be strong.
I can't show fear.
I can't show my trembling hands
Or anxious thoughts through my eyes
My sighs
Consume me
Breath is impossible to keep
When the world spins
And it seems we are all thrown off.
I must maneuver my ship
And keep this family upright
Despite the winds
And the waves
That crash against me
Uncertain where my destination is
Just trying to survive
And pretend there is nothing to see
When it's staring me down
Pay no heed my children
To the monsters lurking
I threw a sheet over them
Ignorance is bliss
Stay naive and grow up
Hopeful
Though never knowing the fortunes
Your fathers had.
We stole it
And we're hoping you can pay it back
And forgive us for our indiscretion
We were only trying to build a better life for you
After all.
So here's your debt
I'll stand stone faced screaming into the darkness
Fearless though knowing that you will suffer
Pretending that everything is fine
In the hope that maybe your pain will be delayed
If only by your ignorance.
