RE: How it was impossible to return a plastic bottle with 50 Forint deposit in Budapest.

Collecting aluminum, glass and plastic beverage containers was a little side gig netting me as much as $1000CAD one year. I just collect them the night before the recycling bins get picked up early next morning from my neighbors street side receptacles. That was times before Steem/Hive. It was free cash at 10 cents for each container here on the Canadian West Coast, a system that has been in existence for 20 years starting with glass bottles then adding aluminum cans and plastics. A whole industry is created in the handling and recycling these. There is also an additional levy of 2 to 5 cents charged on each container with the 10 cent deposit mind you. It pays for the vendor handling fee, transport, storage etc costs of this system. It seems like overkill but it is working with a 95%+ redemption rate.
Lately, the market for recycling plastics have fell out and so the stream of used plastic is incinerated.
The cash I got was often spent on my family for fun and subsidized my silver coin Stacking.

I just posted about Canada in a separate comment - I used to live in Alberta, and collecting bottles was a great way for kids to earn extra pocket money. The way the recycle depots were set up was also much easier and less complicated than what is proposed here in Austria.
