Apple bringt nach 2 Jahren ein völlig uninspiriertes Apple Vision Pro-Upgrade auf den Markt, das wohl einfallsloseste VR-Headset-Upgrade, das man sich vorstellen kann.
Haltet euch fest, während Meta ständig neue Smart-Glasses releast, hat Apple lediglich den Chip und die Headset-Halterung upgegradet und dabei das ohnehin schon schwere Headset noch schwerer gemacht.
Anstatt den Akku als Gegengewicht hinten in die Headset-Halterung zu integrieren oder so viele Komponenten wie möglich in den externen Akku-Pack auszulagern, um Gewicht zu sparen, hat Apple jetzt das Band noch schwerer gemacht und man muss zusätzlich immer noch den externen Akku mit sich herumschleppen.
Der Preis der AVP bleibt unverändert und beginnt immer noch bei $3500 ohne Steuern. In der EU startet so ein Headset bei 4000 Euro. Das ist heftig, wenn man bedenkt wie wenig Use-Cases das Apple-Headset ohne Gaming-Controller bietet und, dass die Meta Quest 3S schon um 330 Euro zu haben ist.
Denke, so wird das mit VR nichts. Zumindest für Apple.
Headsets müssen meiner Meinung nach noch wesentlich leichter, komfortabler und erschwinglicher werden, damit VR massentauglich wird.
Wer will schon einen schweren mobilen Computer, der fast 1kg wiegt, auf seinem Kopf tragen und dabei eine unterdurchschnittliche Grafikqualität auf dem Niveau von Handy-Spielen erleben, während PC-Games dank Unreal Engine 5 und Raytracing immer fotorealistischer werden?

After two years, Apple has released a completely uninspiring Apple Vision Pro upgrade, arguably the most unimaginative VR headset upgrade you can envision.
Brace yourselves, while Meta is constantly releasing new smart glasses, Apple has only upgraded the chip and headset band, making the already heavy headset even heavier.
Instead of integrating the battery into the back of the headset mount as a counterweight or outsourcing as many components as possible to the external battery pack to save weight, Apple has now made the strap even heavier and you still have to carry the external battery pack with you.
The price of the AVP remains unchanged and still starts at $3,500 before tax. In the EU, the headset starts at 4,000 euros. That's steep when you consider how few use cases the Apple headset offers without gaming controllers and that the Meta Quest 3S is already available for around 330 euros.
I don't think VR is going to work out this way. At least for Apple.
In my opinion, headsets need to become much lighter, more comfortable and affordable for VR to become mainstream.
Who wants to carry a heavy mobile computer weighing almost 1 kg on their head and experience below-average graphics quality on par with mobile games, while PC games are becoming increasingly photorealistic thanks to the Unreal engine 5 and ray tracing?

There were even far more weighty and unwieldy in their early days, VR equipments, especially the headsets, I mean. But tech advancements rectified that problem to a significant degree. It's rather unfortunate to see a tech giant like Apple moving backwards instead of forwards. Customer complaints might help to rectify the issue with the headsets.
Apple has more fans than customers, so they don't really care that their technology doesn't justify their prices.
Better not release an upgrade at all than release this downgrade of sorts of the Vision Pro. If I want to experience VR, I'd rather get the Meta Quest 3!
Curiously, a few weeks ago I tried an older version but they were very heavy.
