Tour of the Austrian Parliament. First cracks in the new glass roof.

Habe es jetzt auch zu einer Führung ins neu renovierte Österreichische Parlament geschafft. Ein Abgeordneter der NEOS (Douglas Hoyos) hat eine Führung aus der Sicht eines Parlamentariers organisiert und ich habe die Chance ergriffen, das generalsanierte Parlament zu besichtigen.

Das Gebäude aus dem 19. Jahrhundert ist wirklich beeindruckend. Vor allem der historisch erhaltene Sitzungssaal der Bundesversammlung (Versammlung der Mitglieder beider Kammern, des Nationalrats und des Bundesrats), früher war es das Unterhaus des Österreichischen Reichsrates der Österreichisch-Ungarischen Monarchie.

Der Sitzungssaal des Nationalrats wurde im zweiten Weltkrieg leider zerstört und hat deswegen einen "moderneren" Look der 1950-er Jahre und wurde jetzt generalsaniert und hat eine neue lichtdurchlässige Glasdecke erhalten.

Allerdings hat das Glasdach bereits Risse bekommen. Einzelne Scheiben sind zersprungen. Gängige These ist, dass das Glasdach von Krähen attackiert wird, die Steine auf den lichten Hohlraum abwerfen. Das wurde anscheinend bei der Umgestaltung nicht bedacht. Und die zuständige Firma für das Glasdach ist Pleite, vielleicht ein Exit-Scam 😂

Ansonsten ist alles sehr schön renoviert, hat aber auch viel Steuergeld gekostet.

I have now also made it to a guided tour of the newly renovated Austrian Parliament. A member of the NEOS (Douglas Hoyos) organized a guided tour from the perspective of a parliamentarian and I took the chance to visit the completely renovated parliament.

The building from the 19th century is really impressive. Especially the historically preserved session hall of the Federal Assembly (assembly of the members of both chambers, the National Council and the Federal Council), it used to be the lower house of the Austrian Imperial Council of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

The session hall of the National Council was unfortunately destroyed during the Second World War and therefore has a more "modern" look of the 1950s and has now been generally renovated and has received a new translucent glass ceiling.

However, the glass roof has already cracked. Individual panes have shattered. A common theory is that the glass roof is attacked by crows, which drop stones on the clear cavity. This was apparently not considered during the redesign. And the company responsible for the glass roof is broke, maybe an exit scam 😂

Otherwise, everything is very nicely renovated, but also cost a lot of tax money.
