RE: NHL - New Jersey Devils vs Colorado Avalanche

Well they don't ask how, they ask how many. 8 wins in a row is a NICE cushion to put on at the beginning of a long season. Might be the difference to keep them floating during a slump or be those crucial points at the season-ending race for playoff positioning.

Injuries are piling up across the league and I enjoy it a little as there is room for prospects to step in for some NHL baking and ice-time. Nothing like being an offensive prospect and getting stuffed on the checking line because there is no room on the first couple lines. Montreal has a bad habit of doing that.

Sort:

Pesce's injury really hurts right now; he's irreplaceable, as we saw in the rematch against Colorado.

The defensive pairs have been completely shaken up, with Casey, a young offensive defenseman, replacing Pesce in the lineup.
I'm all for giving young players a chance, but in this situation, I don't think it was the right move by Coach Keefe, and he also changed the offensive lines because Lammikko is now fit.

The result was a tough end to the winning streak, and it was more than deserved—Colorado is just very strong.

Doesn't seem to have impacted these power rankings yet!

Well, they're still top of the NHL table, and hopefully they'll get their defensive chaos back in order against San Jose today.

That's how quickly things can change. 😉
