The film is a crime thriller film directed by Andrew Davis, it is a remake of Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 film Dial M for Murder, though the characters' names have been changed and much of the plot has been rewritten and altered from its original form. Loosely based on the play by Frederick Knott, the screenplay was written by Patrick Smith Kelly.
It stars Michael Douglas, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Viggo Mortensen.
In this film, Michael Douglas plays a man named Steven Taylor, a successful architect married to Emily, played by Gwyneth Paltrow.

However, Steven discovers that his wife is having an affair with a young artist named David Shaw, played by Viggo Mortensen.
Driven by desperation and greed, Steven decides to plan a perfect crime to get rid of his wife and inherit his fortune.
Steven's plan seems foolproof, but things don't go as he expects.
An unexpected twist occurs and the plot thickens.
A shrewd detective, played by the talented actor David Suchet, begins to investigate the case, putting Steven's plans in jeopardy.

As the tension builds, the film keeps us in suspense, wondering if Steven will get away with it or if his dark plan will fall apart in the face of the detective's cunning.
It was released in June 1998, receiving mixed reviews but grossing $128 million at the box office, which exceeded the production cost of $60 million.
At the Saturn Awards, it received a nomination for Best Thriller. In addition, Michael Douglas was recognised for his outstanding performance as Steven Taylor and received a Saturn Award nomination for Best Actor.
At the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards, Michael Douglas was also nominated for Best Actor in a Thriller. His captivating performance as Steven Taylor was widely praised.
