One day his wife leaves him, taking the girl with her, and he falls into a depressive state that leads him to wander the streets of the city where some thugs beat him up so badly that he loses his memory and is left for dead in the city.
He begins to wander from town to town working for food and takes on the name Antoni Kosiba.
In one of many a miller gives him shelter and he stays there, rebuilding his love life and meeting the person he was unconsciously looking for.
The film can be said to reach its climax there and the events with some unexpected twists and turns will lead to a predictable but not expected ending for the viewer.
